This is a really cool painting! I really enjoy the muted colours you have applied in this painting. The character is very interesting as well, his facial expression is really quite ominous. Since you asked for critique, there is something I have noticed. When looking at your piece, I noticed the character is standing on something, but I really am not sure what it is. It blends in with the background quite a bit because it has almost the same colour and some very soft, barely legible lines. My advice would be to paint that in a bit more pronounced to create a clearer image of what the character is standing on. I really like the realism you have applied to this piece, you really did a great job! Keep it up!

Hello! I found your piece in the critique thread on the forums; I hope you don't mind if I share my thoughts in here instead of there?

First things first, I think you can rest assured that your experiments in your new style look very nice and definitely worth exploring more! Mostly though I like your ideas; this guy for example has such a wicked look to him I imagine him as the result of Guy Fawkes drunkenly proposing to a cute little imp girl in Vegas. Certainly has the style of 'I make my own rules' down pat! His trousers definitely testify to that fact. (Such a happy pair they are. Puts a smile on my face just looking at 'm!) Other things I like? The judicious use of strong colours in an otherwise muted piece, and the loose strokes in the background and aforementioned pants. A wedding of subtlety and boldness.

If I had to pick on one thing, I feel I should address the fuzziness on certain parts of the character though - it feels a bit random where it happens, if you catch my drift. For one, the left area of his hat feels like it should be more well-defined, seeing as it so close to the main area of interest (the face) and only right next to it (spatially, even a little bit more towards the back) is the firearm on his back that has all this crisp detail, only to have its edges fading like that. I think my mind is railing at it a bit. Now, just to be clear I don't think an entire painting should be crisp and detailed - but the areas that can be left rough typically have good reason to, because they're outside the areas of interest or so far away in three-dimensional space from the important subjects that they would appear out of focus if the painting had been a photograph or movie shot, anyway.

That's all I've got; I hope you have a lovely week and a very productive 2020. Cheers!
