Description Its finally done. After more than a year on and off converting it, and couple of months just looking at it unsure of what to do... it actually took me only two weeks to paint him. It was a painting marathon that left me sleep-deprived and exhausted. For someone who is notoriously slow painter I'll say that motivation does wonders

With this one I had to improvise a lot and learn new techniques along the way (bronze, osl, lenses) ...and while I'm mostly pleased with the results there is one thing that is bothering me -snow. Really, all that time spent into making an detailed base just to have it all covered But hey, you cant have space wolves without snow on their bases -its just not right.

I'm pretty sure dreadnoughts are terrible in 6th ed. but it doesn't matter, for me they'll always be ancient heroes of the chapter entombed for eternity of service, and a warmachine designed to break the back of armies...

That sounds suspiciously like an ork battlecry

Really awesome job! I love space wolves and dreadnoughts... so this is a real treat!

If I can give you my two cents, the weathering overall is great... but I feel that the back of the legs is a bit too clean compared to the rest of the piece, I feel like a few drips and caked on dirt and snow could go a long way, just my humble opinion!

Again, awesome piece

Wow, you are the first one who didn't just say how great it is...
And you are right about the legs, the thing is I've done the metal areas first (and was pleased how it turned out) but when it came to weathering I overlooked it completely.
Its funny because I've spent so much time working on the mini and never saw it myself

I hear that, it happens to me too, you just get so involved, you stare at it for so long that you tend to overlook certain things. I'm glad you take constructive criticism well. For me it is one of the best ways to improve... great piece non the less

You almost sound as if you were afraid of what I'm gonna do

And yes, that's why it's good to move away from your project just to look at it from a fresh perspective... it also helps to ask someone else for opinion.
To be perfectly honest, even though this is my most popular mini, I don't think it is my best. I wish there was more time but deadline was around the corner...

Thank you for taking a closer look and speaking your mind, I appreciate it

One of the best SW-miniatures I´ve ever seen!
How did you paint the grey of the armour?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LoganGrimnar42 In reply to Eisenteufel [2013-05-22 11:07:44 +0000 UTC]

Its adeptus battlegrey, codex and final highlight of fortress grey (yes I still use old gw paints).
Because its larger model than you regular marine trick is to thin your paints to get a smooth blend, I've used matt medium and painted every highlight in several thin layers. Also instead of my usual black-brown wash I used black-blue, and I like it better this way.
Hope that helps

if anything, have it follow the Space wolves Completeor Dreadnought rules

LoganGrimnar42 In reply to She-who-thrist [2013-03-20 22:38:49 +0000 UTC]

I must admit, I haven't seen the rules. Are they any good?
And... I'm not sure if it would be fair since he is modeled as a regular dread, I mean you wouldn't look at him and instantly thought he is contemptor.
