My guess to the facepalming would this particular Wolf's reaction to hearing the extremely profound LOGIC behind Magnus the Red contacting the Emperor psychically, against the Emperor's express forbidding of doing exactly that.

Descent of Angels (I think the title alludes to Darwin's Descent of Man more than anything else, really) was okay, but my main gripes were a) it's part one of two, obviously which most is just set-up, and b) the gender-fail of 40k novels reached an all new high (low?) as there is only one (!) named female character with a speaking role and she gets promptly killed. :C Da fuq, BL?
