Not very Lovecraftian-he had a aversion against sex. Its rumored that it was that how ended his short marriage.

Lovecraft was possibly asexual, since he didn't seem to be interested in physical love. But I still find that this creature has the overall Lovecraftian feel, with the slime, the tentacles and all.

The name of this film? "The Strangeness". I rented it as a VHS in the late 1980's at a local gas station

It was quite rare for a while, but now it's out on DVD and you can find at least one upload of it on YouTube.

Because you're a big fan of Lovecraftian-style horror, I wonder if you'd be interested in reading my recently finished short story, "A Boy and His...Thing". It's like a dark children's book with a Lovecraftian twist.

I'll understand if you're not interested though.

Just read it, and really liked it The monster is very Lovecraftian, but it also reminds me of the beasties of Conan Doyle's "The Horror of the Heights."

Oh, wow! I was going to give you the link but you found it anyway I see. Glad you liked it. It's sort of my twist on a dark kids' story...kind of like Goosebumps with a splash of Lovecraft.

I'll try publishing it through Kindle after I create a suitable book cover for it.

I actually just bought the Code Red dvd of this movie. Well worth it for the commentary and all the behind the scenes stuff.

I actually enjoy this movie. The monster....aside from the phallic imagery...it really is an imaginative creature. I just wish things were slightly tweaked on it. It really is one of those "Good" monster movies....that not a lot of people have seen.

I saw this as a kid, a rental from the local gas station. The only issues I have with it is about some of the plotting and characters, as well as a bit of the editing here and there. Apart from that it has real atmosphere and the monster is very well shot, and not over-exposed, as one might've expected.

This was from an actual film?

Loneanimator In reply to single-leg [2015-08-11 10:30:02 +0000 UTC]

Yes, the monster is a stop-motion creation, and the film is a real low-budget effort, but it does have heaps of atmosphere. Just type in "the strangeness 1985" over at YouTube, and you'll find the whole thing.

Despite having aΒ Lovecraftian vagina-headed penis-shaped intestine monster inside it, this is actually quite creepy.

Now THOSE mutant-plant-monsters are something I hope draws some day! Those things are sooo disturbing to look at, and especially how they kill you in those "game-death montages".
