personality: Standoffish and antisocial at his best, Rodrick is a lone wolf who thrives in combat, being able to hold his own against even Ultimate-level Digimon with nothing but his lance. He is rude and unsympathetic to other peoples' problems, though is still willing to help them if it presents him an opportunity to fight strong opponents. In spite of his antisocial tendencies, he is known to develop bonds with others very quickly, particularly those he fights alongside with, and can be surprisingly sentimental. He appreciates honesty and people with integrity, and is surprisingly loyal to Princess Jacqueline.

history: Rodrick was introduced late in Book VI, where he had found Prince Nathan and Agumon Expert unconscious in the Ombos Desert, having been sent there by an attack from VenomMyotismon. Rodrick took them both to a stone alcove and nursed the two back to health. When Nathan awoke, Rodrick asked Nathan who he was, placing his spear against the prince's neck. Nathan replied and, satisfied with the prince's answer, Rodrick lowered his spear, saying he knew who Nathan was, appreciating his honesty, stating that the reason he saved Nathan was to challenge him. Nathan insisted that he needed to return to his friends, but in the end, relented to Rodrick's demands, feeling that he owed the man this favor for saving him.

However, the fight was interrupted by the arrival of Kuzuhamon, one of IceDevimon's servants. Oblivious to IceDevimon's existence, Nathan stated that he was the Digimon who murdered his father and sought control of Chrona. Kuzuhamon laughed this off, stating that IceDevimon's servants were on all of the seven continents, and that his temporary presence on Chrona did not hint at its significance over the other continents. Rodrick, enraged that someone had interrupted his fight, fought alongside Nathan and Agumon against Kuzuhamon. During the fight, Jacqueline arrived with her partner, Angewomon, and Digivolved her into her Mega form, Mastemon, and temporarily defeated Kuzuhamon. He then further surprised Nathan by kneeling before Jacqueline (who had been using her codename, Altina) and revealed her identity as Princess of Indria.

Rodrick accompanied Nathan and Jacqueline to Mirabe castle and joined in on the fight against IceDevimon. However, Nathan was ultimately killed by IceDevimon. Predicting this outcome, Nathan had earlier ordered for Rodrick to travel to the continent of Luminaire, becoming one of the main protagonists of Books XII and XIII.
