It's a cunning plan on his part. He gets scalding noodle juice in his eye. A passing girl feels sympathy and hands him a napkin. Leo has then broken the ice and starts to regale her with stories of how awesome he is.
But................ what if Leo wore purple?!

You know, now that you've explained it, it makes a LOAD of sense.
And if Leo wore purple......Well, except for his weapons and voice, we wouldn't be able to tell him apart from Donny, just like back in their early Mirage comic days, when they all wore red.
And I would still prefer Donny. Leo and Raph are too serious (Leo being the goody two-shoes, Raph being the hothead and unable to take a joke), Mikey's too laid back; Donny's got the balanced personality, IMO. He knows when to have fun, but when to be serious.
