After I finished reading "Coraline" I just had to draw something.This is MY version of Coraline. How I imagined her to look like, while I was reading. I'm sure there where some descriptions about her look in the book, but I don't remember them.
I also watched the movie. I love it a lot! I love how it's made with those puppets in stop-motion, love the music and the whole look and atmosphere. But I really don't get the part of this Wybie-guy. Have you seen the Movie? Read the book? Maybe some of you don't know, but he isn't even existing in the book, and, to be honest, I thought he seemed kinda useless... I mean, whenever Coraline REALLY needed help, it was the cat who helped her. Is it to make this place less lonely for her? But that was originally the reason why she wished for something else... I really don't get it.
Anyways!
If you know the story, you should pretty much understand what's happening in the picture. If not, well... than you should read it or watch it! xD

The reason for Wybie to be there was because most of the book was in thought formation, so she would have just been talking to herself and there wouldn't really be any other constant characters except for Other Mother, so...
Fun fact. I read that a few days ago on the Coraline wiki.

I adore your interpretation! I feel in love with the book right away when I read it, but I was a bit confused by the boy in the movie too. I think the rest of it was good though

I haven't read the book (as I said in an earlier comment) but I researched the use of Wybie in the movie. He was created so it wouldn't look like Coraline talked to herself all the time, so she could express her thoughts without looking too weird.

he was in the movie because she couldnt just talk to herself when they needed to set the plotline out. it explains it in the commentary and neil gaiman thinks wybie was a great addition.

it's one of my favourite films, specially because i love Tim Burton <3
and i've been looking for the book but it's really hard to get books where i live, there used to be one competent book store and it's closed now. i might buy them online since i'd like to read them in english and if i find them here it will most probably be in spanish $:

No the book isn't that big, it only has about 160 pages. But it's very good. And I like it much better than them movie, though I love the animation, but I don't like how they changed the story.

I never like how much the story can change in the movies. But, is it scary? Is it more scary than the movie? Becouse, the movie, although infantile, it has some parts a bit scary for children. I loved it, and if the book is scarier than the movie, so... COOL! *.*

mh. I don't know if it's scarier in the book. It's just different. But it's still the same kind of scary, subtle and definitely still appropriate for children. But adults can still enjoy reading it. It's a book that, I feel, really isn't limited to a certain age. :]

I hadn't even read the book and I thought Wybie was useless. Maybe someone just came up with the whole "why were you born?" joke and wanted to use it? No, that's a stupid idea. Anyway I really love your art, it's so... captivating. I always seem to get really good ideas in my head and really want to put them on paper, I can visualize them completely, but I'm just not good enough to do it the way I want. You seem to be able to do it, and that's my goal.

ANYWAYS, I might as well take the time to review, since I've been having a fave-fit all throughout your gallery and to not be a comment-less poop for a change
Your artwork is really amazing, you have such unique designs, and such a unique control over your... um, the only word I can think of is "domain" o_o Lol, anyways, your almost surreal pics (mouths sewed, things like that) were really moving and influencial, and your colourful pictures (like the mermaid one, or the dove) were extremely awe-inspiring, and, in many cases, made me gasp X3
Keep up the amazing work! May thy talent never fade (lol :3)
