I've gotta wonder. Is it a self-portrait?

dude, your legs are a little white. I hope you have got some more sun since then!

I do so love your art, and it is nice to see that you can bring a bit of levity to an otherwise heavy world. Even Atlas would Shrug and relax like this.

Thanks for bringing a bit of humor!

Its not a picture of me.... though my legs are definitely on the pasty side here in winter and chilling out like that is certainly appealing.
Cheers!

Katmomma made the astute Norman Rockwell connection. Perhaps you could work some of Rockwell's classics into your portfolio. Would love to see your "loopy" twist on his self portrait, for example.
I personally see a touch of Big Daddy Roth meets Frank Frazetta. Big fan. Love it all.

All very flattering comparisons there Love both Rockwells technique and sense of narrative - and his self portrait is such an iconic image.. who knows, one day I may have a play in that particular sandpit. Thanks for checking out my work... and huge apologies for such a tardy reply... somehow your comment got lost in a sea of stuff in my inbox

your treatment of skin and lighting is fantastic

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Loopydave In reply to JonnyMarvel [2010-01-21 13:27:26 +0000 UTC]

I use a light non acidic cream - keeps my skin young and elastic and I dont need to bathe in the blood of virgins. As for lighting, I endorse LED downlights - last longer and dont glare of my monitor!

Cheers mate!

Loopydave In reply to JonnyMarvel [2010-01-21 13:40:34 +0000 UTC]

Sure it was fun splashing around in all that blood, but it takes ages of scrubbing to get the bath clean again! - its the dark secret they never show in those horror movies

Everyone says the best way to improve your work is to practice practice practice - and they are pretty much right. Drawing everyday is what got my stuff going - I used to keep sketch books full of stuff I drew on the train, in meetings, anywhere I went. I work as an illustrator now, and I still see things I need to improve on, so I keep practicing!
