Hi, Nathan you work is amazing and your contrasts are magnificent!. thank you very much for sharing your work.
I know you're an art teacher. I really like drawing with pen. However, I would like my drawings have such a rich contrast as having the yours.
I do not know if is the type of paper, what kind of paper should I use to achieve more intense white? and how should I take pictures of my drawings to achieve deeper blacks?.
I have problems with contrast and how to take a better photograph to my works. I would like you to give a look at my draws and you to recommend me something else to improve the technique and others.
Thank you very much Nathan, for me is very important.

I have a question! I love these pens and all but sometimes they leave a lot of blobs of ink, like it just spews out ink randomly and is ends being looking like a lot of dots on my paper.
my art - instagram.com/tariq_biroart -
Ill try to find a drawing that I did that had this problem...
here....

I used a napkin and I wiped the pen constantly!.
should I just use the pen more carefully and slower? softer? i dont know! help!

can you tell me what I need to work on? Be as blunt and honest and mean as possible. I dont want a fake smile saying "yeah its good". I want to work on my flaws and I dont know what to work on.

Hi, no worries. I'm a university art professor as well and am not mean, but blunt First of all, congratulations for choosing a challenging medium, such as the ballpoint pen. From my own experience this technique demands the highest of concentration and patience. Though, I'd say that this medium is also for the more experienced artist. From what I see, I would recommend you perfect first basic understandings of the human figure, such as proportion and construction. Preferably with a medium such as pencils. After you have perfected this, move on to contrasts and a very detailed study of textures.
Once you feel comfortable drawing with pencil and you have your construction, volume, proportion, contrast and shadings techniques down, then you can move on to ballpoint pen. Otherwise you might feel frustrated, but that would be because you are trying to learn and practice too many things at once. And I don't want to sound like I would discourage using the ballpoint pen now and then, but for a subject as complex as the human figure, is best to perfect first the basics with pencil. Then afterwards with ballpoint pen is more a matter of focusing on the application of the technique
Hope this was of some help, cheers!
Nathan

I forgot to link my instagram! instagram.com/tariq_biroart (MY ART)
I feel like I got the proportions down and everything you mentioned...maybe more value wouldn't hurt
Does your previous comment still stand after seeing my art?
