Description Huge stone bowl and pool, suggested to be either sacrificial objects or possibly reflecting pools to look at the stars... Shot in infrared from the top of the main pyramid, looking towards the spiral pyramid with the flank of Popocatepetl volcano to the left.

In the XochitΓ©catl (sho-shee-tay-cattle) site, very old center believed to have been established around 750 BC and abandoned around 100 BC. Predates Aztec and Maya by around 2000 years, to give you a little idea. Not sure who lived there, but it may have been a precurser to the Olmecs. Perched on top of a small extinct volcano, about 9,000 feet above sea level.

Holy wow, the photo makes it seem as if the natural elements here are made up of mathematical equations - everything is perfectly balanced in this. Amazing stuff

I framed that one for quite a while, looking and looking, then grabbed the shot. Glad it worked so well, thanx

So this is the work before the crop... I still like it. The trees give it a sort of different feel. It's amazing how a small change can totally transform a photo.

It was *shatteredlens 's idea, and I think it was good - now there are 2 images, both totally different, which is cool. Thanx

no shit dude...the composition is spot on! the pool, bowl, tree etc...like from some ancient ritual.

exactly, that is what they were for - but what ritual, that is still the question...

ahh... the infrared part... well, there is not that much to teach. you need a camera that can "see" IR wavelengths ad a filter to block out visible light. after that, it is pretty simple post processing on the computer...

Wow you took a lot of pics there! I like this one too. Just a random though, but did you think about cutting the trees out? If you crop just to the point where there is no longer any trees it makes the pool and bowl of water so much stronger.

And I still have 2/3s - 3/4s to go! Not a bad idea, I am going to try that...
