1) No, it's not a war crime. A war crime is an unnecessary act of cruelty in times of war towards a given group protected under the Geneva Conventions from said extremes. This was a necessity. There was no alternative. We couldn't invade Japan and we couldn't negotiate.Β
2) Japan has never directly acknowledged or apologized for the crimes against humanity it committed in WWII.
3) We've nothing to apologize for. In this context at least.

Pride for your country and shame for the pain they have caused...Caught in a war you know you cannot win. And all of a sudden the city where your grandma lives just blows up... who could have believed the Americans were telling the truth with those fliers......
I'm proud to be an American but I'm still ashaimed of the wars we have caused around the world in the name of democracy.
