Description The XVL 1456 Mk.3 is a derivative of a weapon designed by the famous research company Black Mesa, before it was shut down for safety violations. The design was sold off to fellow military contractor, Draconis Industries International, who continued and eventually perfected B.M.'s work.

The weapon is also known as the "Tau Cannon" or the "Gauss Cannon"

Credit for the base of this design goes to Torchwood-5.

This is the most well-done "what if the Tau Cannon was completed & entered production" picture I've seen. However, a few suggestions to improve it:

  • Considering how advanced the Tau Cannon is, I don't think it would be aimed with a mere laser sight. It should have a little monitor hooked up behind the carry handle, with that monitor connecting to a little camera in the barrel (kind of like in James Bond, when they switch the cam to the bullet's perspective)
  • There should be a trigger on the front grip (the idea being that the rear trigger is the primary fully-automatic shot, while the front grip trigger is the secondary semiautomatic/charged shot)
  • The little blue can of Depleted Uranium should be moved to the bottom, right behind the front grip. The front grip should be extended above the proposed front trigger to allow room to use said front grip. The idea behind moving moving the little blue Depleted Uranium can is that it's the magazine, & most small-arms assault weapons are designed for convenience when the user does things to maintain usability of the gun. I have never seen an assault rifle have its magazine to 1 side. SMGs & some older LMGs (the German MP18 & the American M249 5.56mm by 45mm NATO SAW LMG come to mind), yes. Assault rifles, no.
  • Under the carry handle, there should be an ambidextrous cocking bolt (I know the proper term is charge handle. I use "charge handle" for that category of firearm components as a whole, "cocking bolt" for such a part on semiautomatic/burst-fire/full-auto capable firearms, "cycling bolt" for bolt action-only firearms, "cycling slide" for pump-action firearms & the pump-cock device on s-3-F firearms with pump-action abilities, & "cycling lever" for lever-action firearms) modeled after that of the Samopal vzor Škorpion, with more pronounced grip-knobs & in reverse. This being a particle-beam weapon, it doesn't actually chamber a round, but merely secures the magazine in place upon being cocked. Picture the third-person view reload for the player's Tau Cannon arsenal item in SMOD & you have the right idea of how the cocking system would work.
  • speaking of SMOD, you should make a custom model for the equippable Tau Cannon in that game based on this picture if you decide to make those improvements to the picture. If you do so, leave the scout car tau alone (the idea being that the 1 mounted on the car is specifically designed for that, while the 1 the player gets for the carried arsenal was intended for man-portable usage)

Thanks for the advice but it was fairly difficult to do...I may or may not do the things up you suggest, but thanks anyways...

also...it's a particle cannon basically (it shoots Tau particles)

I already know it's a particle cannon. What made you think I didn't know that already? I clearly stated that since it's a particle Cannon, the cocking bolt merely locks the magazine in place after insertion rather than chambering a round. Also, do you imagine the production version to have the infamous "shoot through walls" & "jump-augmenting recoil" abilities?

Shoot through walls yes...jump-augmenting recoil no...since that was an unintentional side effect of the weapon...this is also likely a mid-stage weapon, I said Production varient, but a Mk. or 6 would be a Perfected Varient

If you want to modify it yourself I could send you the code on it

Yeah, I saw someone had done one and wanted to make a more militarized version!
