That's what I love about it - with so many animated films trying to stick to a similar visual style, it's great to see something that with a real distinctive aesthetic. It looks like Gutierrez is being given a lot of creative freedom to make the movie he wants.

ah, it was a great Experience when the Trailer just came out. Still beating drums in my heart like Steaming engines, aye.
all those Calaveras and skulls design in every scene were Fantastic. it was like a tangled parade of El Tigre and Psychonauts in a good shake, a Damn fine good one I say!
PS: by the way.... am i the only one who totally got a crush on the Skeletal Bandit lady twins? you know, the twin lady skeletons show up at the moment when Conquistador Skeleton says 'Enjoy your Fiesta!'

So, they are possibly the Adelitas from the Mexican Revolution? then it makes me even more love this film. i always had special Things for the Historical Revolutions and Female Revolutionaries, and Still I AM. oh man, seriously i need to draw some Fanarts for this movie.

The Book of Life literally blew me away. I've never been this surprised(in a good way) about an animated feature in a long time. It visually looks like its a Tim Schafer game brought to life as an animated feature(hell, even the character designs remind me of Grim Fandango). I love how you drew this character.

The characters from both The Book of Life and Grim Fandango seem to be based on traditional calacas, which might explain the similarity. I am super excited for the movie - the mythology and pageantry surrounding the Day of the Dead is so perfect for an animated world and Jorge Gutierrez isn't holding anything back, in terms of visuals at least. Plus it's by ReelFX! Great to see them not trying for a Frozen clone or more talking animals.
Have you played Guacamelee? If you like the whole Mexican culture/Day of the Dead aesthetic and classic Metroid-style gameplay I recommend it.
