Description The forests of the Appalachian Mountains, Chesapeake Bay and Mississippi River Valley provide rich bounties of food and shelter for numerous dinosaurs and birds. Some of these creatures have developed unique adaptations.

Forest ghosts are closely related to the Mountain ghosts of the Rocky Mountains ([link] ) and share their semi-opposable toes and hands as well as their advanced howling communications. While predominantly carnivorous, they're not above eating fruits or gourds. Although smaller than the Mojave raptor ([link] ) it is much more nimble and able to climb trees for food or protection.

Architectus lives in small family groups that construct dams and lodges out of felled trees and saplings. Their feathers are tight and contain a thin layer of insulating air, much like the penguins in the Southern hemisphere. This hypsolophodont belongs to the same family as the pouched Prairie digger (see Mojave raptor link) and so the females stick to their lodges as they carry the eggs and hatchlings. Architectus males collect plants for their families to eat by storing it in their crops. This cozy family picture ends as soon as the hatchlings are sexually mature and large enough to leave the lodge. They venture out to find new sites for dams and families of their own.

The Hook-wing is a flightless cormorant that redeveloped claws on the ends of its wings. It uses them to crawl along the river or swamp bottom in search of fish or invertebrates. Unfortunately, the lack of flying wings prevents it from migrating in the winter, so many Hook-wings stay close to the warm Gulf of Mexico. It is possible in another million years that the species becomes purely oceanic.
