That is a very nifty gun, though I find they way he holds it rather strange. Why wouldn't he hold it closer to his head, so aiming is easier?

This version of the their rifle is made for big caliber, the normal rifle is more thin. When they shot, they hold it closer to the head, as other gun. The round guard between the trigger and the barrel is an anthropomorphous head, the left eye is empty, where you can aim as scope.
