Description A picture of my new character, Ekile, that was originally just a flat coloured sketch but I added a little more bit by bit and I surprisingly like how it came out!

My main goal with this piece was to focus on the mood and working without textures which for man-made materials is pretty hard! And for my first concrete attempt, I am so happy!

For my first piece of 2014, it's looking good!

I find that when you push yourself with your art, you not only present your character but you present them in a situation, in a world- their world, if you will. And its fantastic, I love that. It really pulls people into the character's story and I really enjoy that aspect of your art.

Did you ever have to read The Handmaid's Tale during high school? I had to. The post apocalyptic totalitarian regime that ruled over the United States is essentially the same government that Romney wanted to create. I was, not even joking, ready to have some of my American friends over for a very long sleepover if he'd been voted in. The book itself is written by Margaret Atwood, so woo, go Canada, and its a pretty good read in the sense that its a scary cautionary tale of what could happen if society and government continue the way they're going. To boot, it was written in the '80s I think so to have that kind of foresight be scarily enough true, is frightening. I just read your journal entry so if you haven't read the book I certainly don't expect you to, thats just what the Romney reference in the picture made me think of.

Oh gosh! You're too nice!

No I can't say I have read it! I don't believe things would have been apocalyptic bad if Romney had been voted in but they wouldn't have been good either mainly for his White-male-Christian views. I don't mind religion, really I don't, but it's when people think that because their religion says this or says that, that everyone has to follow it? How does that make any sense?

I love reading! Now that some of my workload is off my shoulders I have returned to my series Game of Thrones (so gooood!)

Game of Thrones *sigh <3

I guess I got ahead of myself when I said the post apocalyptic bit. I didn't mean it in a physically destroyed world" sense. Or maybe "apocalyptic" was the wrong word. Dystopian society would have been better both to describe the book and Romney's idea of what government should be. He certainly wouldn't have had the power to physically destroy the land, but that idea of government would certainly have been for the worse- and the book tells the story of an America that has suffered that. Right down to the "white-male-(strictly)Christian views, right down to controlling citizens' beliefs, their bodies and what they do with them, how they teach people, especially children. It's a terrifying novel, and I'm not kidding when I said that Romney's "government" was the first step to the dystopia of the novel. If you ever do have the time do read it, I'd highly suggest it. Very depressing, but definitely eye opening.

That's a frightening thought! Luckily for us Romney made too many mistakes for the majority of the States to like and vote for him. I remember when election came around, I had never been so immersed in politics but that night I remember actually being anxious if Romney won!

It was actually very close for a while there. Before Obama won the electoral states, it was looking pretty grim. There was actually reinforcements sent to border patrol offices because there were so many people leaving the country.

Tell me about it though, I'm never a politics kid and then these recent elections and all of a sudden I can't get enough information about it.

I think that goes for a lot of people, including me! I usually don't care who's in office. I may prefer one person over the other but ultimately I don't care, however, it was a different situation when Romney vs Obama election came around!

I really love the grungy feel to this, Fell! The shading on Ekile came out awesome, and I love the concrete backdrop and the wire fence (ESPECIALLY the wire fence, it gives so much depth blurred like that). This is a very auspicious start to your 2014 drawing year. ;3

And I did a double-take at the little posters out there, then promptly burst out laughing. xD

Mwahaha, I love grunge.

I think I need to work on my shading, still, or at least the lines that form the shading. It's always the back legs that get me. But for my first attempt, or recent attempt, at a man-made structure such as concrete it came out really well! I recalled seeing a tutorial for armour and decided to base it off that from memory.Β

Hahah glad you like them! My watchers at my stream chose the titles.Β

Sai is great for sketching, outlining, and shit, but when it comes to backgrounds, I leave that to PS.
