Wilheard loves to meet new people and socialize, being the most social of his family. Thus, he is usually friendly, nice, polite, and happy to hear what others have been up too. From a simple “I went shopping” to a grand tale of travel, whether the subject involves magic or not, he enjoys interacting with people. It’s why he decided to be a receptionist- even if he does get the odd, nasty customer. Wilheard can be a bit of a neat freak, hating messes and disorder and will actively clean if he feels the place is too messy. Though a good amount of his fixation to be clean stems from needing to be organized about his things and paperwork- considering a misplaced document could reveal a lot about himself if found by the wrong person.

Though very secretive about magic, Wilheard is proud of who he is as a wizard and more then happily will use magic when he can. He’ll cheat in small games if he can get away with it- being a bit competitive in certain games and use magic to clean or make things easier for him. He is also more than happy to show off to anyone who does learn about his status as a wizard, though so far no one other than other wizards have figured it out. Wilheard unfortunately has been guarded with his magical abilities and knowledge and tends to get snippy or aggressive if people attempt to pry, hence why so few know of it. The more someone attempts to figure out his secrets, the more Wilheard becomes secretive and even withdraw from them. Luckily for Wilheard, his nerdiness and love for games can easily be used as a guise for why he thinks magic may be real, and when he needs to he’ll fall back to that as an excuse, going on a long tangent about the wonders of magic in the hopes of throwing people off.

Background:

Wilheard though not the oldest wizard out there was born some time ago on these very islands. Raised in a large family of wizards and magic casters, he had been taught at an early age to be wary about showing his magic. Some folk saw magic as a beauty, but many others feared it due to those who abused magic to curse others. One could never be too careful regarding who they revealed their magic too, and history had showed them that most seemed to fear magic than like it. So, not wanting their son to be ostracized, harassed, captured, or worse, his parents instilled in Wilheard a belief that it was better to hide his magic then try to play up his wizard status.

As such most of his family- his grandfather, mother and father, uncle, cousin, older brother, and twin brother all chose to isolate themselves from the rest of the world in a remote area on Anura. To them it was easier to avoid having their magic revealed by living in isolation. But Wilheard wanted to interact with the world, and after much debate his parents finally let him attend school with other children. It seemed easy at first- just go to school, attend classes, and don’t cast magic.

And that worked… for a time. Wilheard dressed and acted like any other child and grew up behaving as if he lived in a regular household, but he could never truly hide his magic. Or rather, the effects magic had on him- as everyone in Wilheard’s family aged far slower than the average person once they reached adulthood. This meant that where his friends grew old and grey, he stayed young and fit. At first most dismissed it as having “a youthful look”- some people just did not age too quickly. But when he got older, and older, and as his friend wrinkled and greyed, Wilheard knew they could tell something was up. And the longer he seemed to just not age, the more questions it would raise.

Left with little choice, Wilheard fled Anura and moved onto Seriseri. He understood now why his family stayed hidden, but this did not deter Wilheard from trying to stay social. He enjoyed meeting new faces, talking to people, and refused to go back into isolation like the rest of his family. What he needed was a plan- a way to appear to be aging, even if he wasn’t. The idea finally came to him while shopping one day, when he observed a woman in the makeup isle of a clothing store attempting to make herself appear youthful again through the application of blush and eyeliner.

If makeup could possibly hide wrinkles or somewhat de-age a person, it likely could work in the opposite way too? Apply some lines here, dye his hair grey, wear the right clothing, bend his back a bit or move slowly as he “got older” and he could pretend he aged like anyone else. Then he could simply claim to be a son, or nephew- fake him passing away or moving, and restart the process elsewhere. By the time he had to relocate to an old part of the island, most people by then might have forgotten what he looked like, and he could then start the process all over again. Sure, at first it wasn’t cheap, he had to always save up a large portion of his funds to move when the time came. But it worked for the most part.

Now able to live a little more calmly and without fear of being ousted for his magic, Wilheard began to develop varying interests in games, table-top RPGs, and other nerdy hobbies that he enjoyed playing when they first came out and still plays to this day- even if he is a bit of a cheat. Currently he has returned to Ki having just moved from Anura, and works as a receptionist at the hotel on the island.

Fun Facts:
-  Wilheard plays the pan flute and usually carries it with him, playing it when he’s bored or even just to play little diddies (such as when he wins a game)

-  He owns a small cockatiel named “Julius Cockatrice” who he deems “is the smartest bird you’ll ever meet”, noting that his cockatiel knows not to poop outside of his cage. That’s really the only claim he has that his cockatiel is smart

-  Wilheard usually rents small houses and apartments when he moves, but he does have one true house that he had built some time ago on Ki when he saved up enough money that is his permanent resident- this is where he is currently staying, and when not he uses it as a summer home

-  Like the nerd he is, the house is meant to appear like a classical, medieval estate- right down to décor that appears medieval. Funny enough despite his fascination, Wilheard is nowhere near that old and has never actually lived in the Middle Ages, let alone close to it. It seems his interest stems more from his games, as even his family home was relatively modern

-  Wilheard has a twin brother who still lives on Anura- they occasionally meet up

-  He uses his magic often but in very simple ways- allowing him to be pretty lazy most of the time (i.e. helping cook, clean, garden, etc)

-  Knows of only 1 curse- the “Liar’s Mark” curse which involves one’s tongue swelling up when lying, and returning to normal when honest- he’s only cast it once on his twin brother, and usually it works for 1 lie (so when the truth is told, the curse ends)

-  Is always willing to babysit if anyone needs help. This has often been Wilheard’s downfall though, as on a few occasions the now adult kids have recognized him if they see him again years later

-  He’s gone by several names; Wilheard, Willis, William, Wilbert, Will, Wilhelm, and then some; but he tends to cycle through them and always insists others call him “Wil”. He claims it’s a “family tradition”, though everyone else in his family do not have names that start with Wil
