Description Goddess of cats, children, music, dancing and the arts, Bast is the daughter of Ra and Isis and since cats were revered in Ancient Egypt she was a highly popular deity with her worship centered in the city Bubastis - spiritual home of the famous Egyptian cat mummies. Bast was originally depicted with lioness head and quite fierce but over time her image softened, this resembles the myth of Sekhmet leading to many to acknowledge then as two aspects of the same goddess - Bast, the gentle domestic side and Sekhmet, the violent warrior side. Personally. I prefer to think of them as linked but seperate entities, but that's just me.

Her symbol is the sistrum (a musical instrument of the time) and while originally depicted with lioness' head she is much more commonly shown to have a cat's head. She is associated with the cat (obviously).

Also known as: Bastet, B'sst, Baast, Ubaste, Baset
