Description The divine bull of the gods in the Epic of Gilgamesh, after her sexual advances towards the hero Gilgamesh were rejected the goddess and so-called Queen of Heaven Ishtar stopped at nothing to punish him for the his slight. She appealed to her father Anu to allow her to set the Bull on Gilgamesh and his friend Enkidu, Anu initially refused as the beast inevitably would cause great destruction to the rest of humankind just to get at these two people but Ishtar managed to convince him with a threat of raising the dead to devour the living - inventing the zombie apocalypse genre at the same time. Sure enough, when the Bull is unleashed its breath is so powerful that it creates giant pits that innocent immediately fall into - in fact, the Bull's first two breaths on Earth kill two hundred people! Using teamwork the pair manage to slay the beast when Enkidu pulled its tail distracting it long enough for Gilgamesh to get a lucky thrust of his sword into its neck. The death of their prized Bull is taken more seriously by the gods than Ishtar's hurt pride and results in the decision that one of the heroes must die as penance.
