Actually, there was a whole episode of the animated series devoted to them, penned by original episode writer David Gerold. It was called "More Tribbles, More Troubles" and featured tribbles who grew to enormous size, rather than reproduced prodigiously, when they over-ate. Check it out if you get the chance, it's a fun episode!
