Argento Soma is quite underrated - about 22 eps in as of this post. Dialogue and pacing are better than Evangelion's in my opinion.
However, the overall plot premise/tropes involved weren't as deep as Evangelion's (granted I don't think NGE necessarily executed all that psychological stuff towards the end that well. The EVA/Angel designs were also more impressive and diverse than the SARGs/Aliens - which made it visually more memorable - not to mention a tsundere and kuudere for fans to obsess over.
I haven't seen the NGE rebuilds, but overall I think I'd still give the edge to Argento Soma.

i love it. i have seen it all. twice
i think it can be called one of the post-evangelion animes. but i don't like evangelion, there's too much crazy hysterical kids while argento soma is story about adults and their feelings. i can't explain you why this anime is good, i'm bad in english (this also applies to my native language) Q_Q but it's really good
