Brilliant composition with a great balance between light and darkness. The image is very suggestive leaving a lasting impression in me. The slight glow from the white parts adds a sence of dreaming making the sureal image more believable.

En mycket bra bild. MΓ₯ste bara lΓ€gga till den i favoriter. Tusen tack.

You know, there are two ways you can obscure your vision so you can't see anything.
The obvious is going into the dark..... and the other, in a place with a very strong light.

heh, at family get togethers my uncle always used to fall asleep and we'd stick a lamp shade on his head and take a picture. we have several pictures.

Sorry but I'm really far away from getting this one. No..... I do not get it at all. I’m already kind of bored with this image because you used one very similar to it before. Umm the framing is ok and the title color is cool..... Poor Carolina with her pretty head in a lampshade. This literally gives me a headache with he lack of scene it makes while you present it like it makes perfect scene.

Even the lower part of her face is gone. The jaw, chin, mouth, all obliterated. This is the woman in a domestic violence situation - no identity, no face, nothing that another person can identify with. She has left our reality. Very powerful.

(Part 2 of 2)

The second meaning relates more to the lampshade bearer being crazy or insane. The practice is clearly not normal so we must assume that person is out of his/her mind. How do we know how to find the person at the party that got the most out of hand? He/she is wearing a lampshade on his/her head. (Albeit, that person's 'madness' is usually an attempt at humour and the consequence of indulging in alcohol and is therefore less severe and temporary. Nevertheless, the action is considered, at least, mildly crazy or insane.) This notion is portrayed less noticeably in this piece by the clothing the subject is wearing. The lightweight, wrinkled, white cotton is very comparable to a hospital-patient's smock. The black, rubber-latex gloves are often associated with an insane person's melodramatic fear of germs or bodily fluids. Therefore, one can assume the subject is struggling to maintain his/her sanity.

I feel this representation draws from both notions associated with the symbolism of wearing a lampshade on one's head. My interpretation is that the subject, a young female in this case, has become insane due to the world around her. She has been the witness and victim of horrifying and excruciating events. The lampshade represents her last desperate attempt to hid and forget the misery of her surrounding world.

Thanks.

Interesting commentary here. A lampshade over one's head is a classic symbol of one of two notions. The first, presented very clearly in this piece, is fear. We all remember our favourite cowardly, mystery-solving Great Dane, Scooby-Doo. Putting a lampshade over his head became his hallmark whenever he had to hide from the evil monsters that were on the verge of catching him. Eventually, Scoob would have to remove the shade, and with the help of his eager 'mettlesome' friends, go on to face the monsters and solve the mystery. Was this goofy child's cartoon trying to subliminally instil courage in youth to help them face and conquer real-world fears? And what the heck was with all of the marijuana metaphor? Scooby β€˜DOOBIE’ Doo? I guess that would be a question best posed to Hanna and Barbera, the 'toons creators.

Extraordinary, one of the best marriages of design simplicity with exquisite details I've seen. The quality of the fabric just slays me.

I think the glowing on the lampshade is perfect - evident, but rightly restrained.

The black gloves are vital - at the thumbnail view, it's easy to see a bigger face, and the gloves become the bottom shadow of an imaginary nose (with the spaces above her shoulders imaginary eyes.)

The only thing that throws me is that it appears she's looking straight up, that we're seeing the underside of her chin. Which would be fine, but then the lampshade shouldn't seem to be resting on her in quite this fashion. It's a little perplexing, and my only (very) minor critical observation... I.e., that a minor perplexity would detract from the major one!

Overall, though, this is extremely potent for the passivity of the image. It lets us have our own powerful reaction to it rather than "try too hard" to impose one. PERFECT space, too, horizontally and vertically...

Coolest thing I've seen from you in ages, maybe EVER... and that's really saying something, as you are so reliably phenomenal...

very strange, but really good. conceptual at its best.
i like the meaning of forgetting in conclusion of hiding the head. there is no need to say that the quality is perfect. the light, the dead space and all, its great executed and its something what i expect from you.
its not easy to impress me, but you got it again.

ailine...
