Around this time each year I release a new sketchbook. This year, I'm releasing "MYTHOS", which is currently available to PRE-ORDER (see my latest Deviant Journal entry for more).Everyone PRE-ORDERING "MYTHOS" also gets ONE FREE SKETCH with their book. I actually try to do much more than just a quick sketch for the folks who order, to show my appreciation.
This drawing of the ROCKETEER, one of my personal favorite characters, is the first of this years FREE SKETCHES, and I hope you enjoy checking it out!

That's a fantastic portrayal of The Rocketeer.
He's one of my all time favorite characters, so I've always been too scared to draw him for fear of messing up
But you've got him down pat, excellent job

oddly enough, I'm not familiar with this character, but the art is very good. I love the angle/perspective.

Never seen the ROCKETEER movie?? It came out through Disney back in 1991. Check it out sometimes. I think you might enjoy it.

THE COMPLETE ROCKETEER BY DAVE STEVENS will be released in October through IDW. It will be a hardcover edition collecting the entire series. Dave Stevens hand-picked Laura Martin is to recolor it, and I'm really looking forward to it.

Disney made some expensive replicas of that helmet that are wearable or great for display. Couple hundred bucks to get one, if you can find them--I really, really want one!

its amazing how much we all love the rocketeer and how much that film isn't ummmm amazing. It's not a bad film, it's just mediocre but damn if the design isn't awesome (and who doesn't love evil Timothy Dalton?) lol.

I actually like the movie, Ielle. Have you seen it recently? I think I like it better now than I did when I first saw it. I think the reason I like the film is because it's very faithful, in most ways, to the comic character. Disney changed some things for sure about Cliff's girlfriend, etc, but Billy Campbell's portrayal of Cliff Secord seems on the money to me. I'm a sucker for pulp adventure though, and the idea of a rocket-man (no,no--not like Shatner Rocket Man") fascinates me.
The sound track is also great! Jennifer Connely never looked better!

Dave Stevens was my idol. I bought all the ROCKETEER comics back in the day, and I have both trades--even the ultra-difficult "CLIFF'S NEW YORK ADVENTURE" which is rarer than hen's teeth to find. Luckily for a whole new generation of comic readers, the ROCKETEER comic stories will be getting a new release and new colors very soon!
