Wow, this is amazing! Love it And I appreciate the well-drawn and detailed armour (and proper armour, which is rare nowadays on ladies). Plus the Nordic influence in Lily's (? The one on the right) design is awesome.

Thank you! I think them ladies have two choices: go with proper armor (well, that's light, but quite protective) or without (like in the clans). It freaks me out how they get giant pauldrons and are very protective with their shins, and then keep belly and chest (of course) naked. I don't know about nerds out there, but real armor won't keep me from appreciating boobs πŸ˜„
Yes, big blonde girl is Lily. Please, explain me the nordic thing, I'm really bad at determining my own influences in most cases 😊 first prototype of her actually looked like some sort of pirate slut, and evolved in later months... wait... years... damn.

I'm going to colour this thing sooner or later. I have irrational fear to ruin it because I should not use watercolours on dry technique paper but I did it well, I'll do it again.Β
I guess I'm in for sunday evening random ranting. Just forgive my prolixity and stay tuned. 😁

Or fight in normal clothes like many normal people do. XD
Check this out. Thought it was related.

I'd say the style of patterns and general make of her tunic/dress looks Nordic, especially that slit in front with the checkers along the edge.
Her pants being fairly loose and tied down at the calves are also typical Nordic designs. And the style of her belt and knife.
Of course, this has probably appeared in other cultures and in fantasy as well, so

Awesome! You could try photocopying this and using watercolour on the copied version. That way, when you fuck up or rub something out, you won't destroy the original picture. Feel free to flick me a message when you do end up colouring it

That is totallyΒ exhilaratingΒ Β made my evening!

Anyway, according to Matt Easton, most fighters could afford nothing more than a gambeson, which is actually a good protection. Lily wears no plate or mail here, because she's not in the first line anymore. She's a wrecker and an infiltrator so, paddings and boiled leather. I think she's almost sexier all geared-up than in her underwear

I tell you, the knife is ripped directly from... many different knife makers on youtube, who apparently all like that model crazily. Wide blade and window (skull) breaker got me in the end
I think Scandinavian people, along withΒ Anglo-Saxons and Celts, mostly went withΒ knotworks and more curvy, beast-like decorations, but it's not like I possess a vast culture on this matter. About the shape of her clothes, I'll have to trust you entirely.

I'll go to some printing shop to get another work of mine scanned, so I'm going to ask them if they can make copies on proper watercolour paper. Otherwise I'm using the original. It's not that difficult, I only have to be very quick with brushes, and much cleaner than I use to, like I did on little Mary of the Alder. I will add a very simple background as well, to conceal the dirtiness of the sheet and notice you when the whole thing is done .

Yep, depends a bit on the time period though. In some stages of the Middle Ages, it was common for soldiers to be provided with hauberks, all paid by the lord or whoever they were fighting for. In the Dark Ages, I know that all or most Nordic cultures didn't have this system and you had to pay for it yourself. Some people didn't even have a gambeson, they just fought in their tunics. Iron was very expensive.

Curvy decorations, snake-like (wyrm), yeah. That's mostly on furniture, tools, jewellery, walls and shields. I meant the checkered patterns on the hem of her clothes; this was done by Dark Ages cultures, especially Scandinavians. It's called "tablet weaving". Trust me, I'm a Viking Reenacter

Ok, good luck!

I definitely trust you on this! And it is good to know. Maybe I'm going to search for references to educate myself

What's more fun, search for re-enacter clubs in your area. Then you'll probably get a good fight out of it, too.

wow awesome! what I love with your characters is that they all have different faces types/body types! they look so badass!
are you planning of coloring them?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

LosVelka In reply to Asterpillar [2015-10-07 09:51:34 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! Well, the fundamental feature of any character should be uniqueness, I mean, what's the good in making them all look the same, when it is only their gear or other external elements differentiating them? They have personalities, and deep physical differences to top that. I have just started introducing some of them 😊 and yes, I plan on colouring these two, even on this awful dry technique paper. I can do that πŸ˜„

hoho I'm pretty sure you're skilled enough to make it look good! I look forward it!

The sheet is so dirty, I'm not anymore used to work with pencils this way. Thinking about adding background and maybe color, someday. And buying cotton gloves

Well, I started making something up with Typhon, I love how his imagination runs fast and washes in dark waters, but really, I don't want to see them die so young! Anyway, I'm sort of sloth-minded these days, heat won't let go and August tends to be sad in Milan, although it is the most quiet of times. You'll get to know their story, by the way, and those of the many other carachters living in my mind since... oh, just too many years now Β

EstherLR In reply to LosVelka [2015-08-18 18:00:03 +0000 UTC]

And by Typhon do you mean Greek mythology? Either way, it sounds fantastic! I can't wait

Haha and I completely get the sloth-mindedness. It's getting to me too, gotta press myself hard to get some art out. August in Milan sounds way better than August in Delhi, although it did rain heavily today and it was so beautiful. Hope sloth doesn't get to you too much though

LosVelka In reply to EstherLR [2015-08-18 18:17:17 +0000 UTC]

Ahahahah, ok, my fault. I meant that lovely deviant fellow Dragon-King-Typhon.

Well, never been to Delhi by the way. Is it on a tropical latitude? And right now (08:15pm) here it is raining lightly and air is fresh and I'm happy with the fan finally resting.
I will flee from sloth soon, mainly because it reminds me of the sloth demon in Dragon Age Origins, making me want to videogame like crazy

EstherLR In reply to LosVelka [2015-08-18 18:26:33 +0000 UTC]

Ahhhh, I see. Now that I look at his art, I completely get it. Lots of Greek monsters, AND most importantly, there's "dragon" in his name which is a bonus.

Ehm, it is somewhat tropical. Mostly arid. But this summer it's been monsoon forever, so humid. It's like dripping water through your skin, not sweating anymore . But it's cool-ish. Probably the most bearable summer I've ever experienced in Delhi. 8:15 pm, so early. It's 11:55 pm here.

Pshh, making me jealous with video games

LosVelka In reply to EstherLR [2015-08-18 18:46:43 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, Typhon is THE Dragon!Β

Anyway, I thrive in the cold. Even icy. I'll live at the feet of a mountain someday
And I will not play video games seriously until I haven't a real pc. I mean, I actually burned the laptop on 2013 and relied on ipad since then. But this thing is not for real videogaming, apart from the first KOTOR, very good tablet port of a wonderful old title. If you do not know it, I strongly advise you get it. And minecraft pocket edition, of course

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

EstherLR In reply to LosVelka [2015-08-18 21:51:06 +0000 UTC]

Oh man, I love the mountains. That is my goal too, but not too cold. My nose turns red in the cold and I sneeze like a possessed person.

You burned a laptop? That is very tragic. RIP.
And tablet games huh? Yeah, the stuff that sucks you into the bathroom forever, right? I'm trying to look at screenshots of the game on Google but all I see are pictures of the town Kotor which I shall put down in my list of places to see. And of course, minecraft I don't play it. I'll probably not move for days if I did.

LosVelka In reply to EstherLR [2015-08-19 07:08:44 +0000 UTC]

Well, moving south in the winter could be a good compromise

Tablet games tend to be boring to me actually... search for bioware's star wars knights of the old republic. Not the mmorpg, but the oldest one! I'll search for this town of Kotor

EstherLR In reply to LosVelka [2015-08-19 07:14:59 +0000 UTC]

Nice. Old school graphics. I like really shitty graphics; it makes me feel nostalgic. Perhaps I shall get this game then. Well, goodbye world, I'll be sitting over there turning into a potato.

Isn't Kotor just beautiful? Plus, the name

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

LosVelka In reply to EstherLR [2015-08-20 11:45:31 +0000 UTC]

The story is quite deep and sad, for a videogame. I would advise more or less every single bioware game, from Baldur's gate to the present day, in particular Neverwinter Nights and all three Mass Effect. And Dragon Age Origins, of course. And if you like old crappy graphics and Star Wars, take a look at the Jedi Knight franchise. Superb gameplay, in my humble opinion.

Kotor is beautiful, I didn't even know it existed, and that it is called Cattaro, in Italian! Montenegro... for some reason, the name made me think of Indonesia... hope we are talking about the same town

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

EstherLR In reply to LosVelka [2015-08-20 18:43:21 +0000 UTC]

Gasp! Neverwinter Nights is my all-time favorite game I could replay all the campaigns forever and ever until the end of time.

Yes indeed we are talking about the same town. "Montenegro is a small Balkan country with rugged mountains, medieval villages..." Um, I think I just found my dream place. Mountains and medieval villages, yes please.

LosVelka In reply to EstherLR [2015-08-20 22:46:01 +0000 UTC]

ahah likely the game I've spent most time playing and replaying, alongside Oblivion and Skyrim... and the editor... I don't consider it cheating, as long as you keep it fair. So you should definetely get Dragon Age Origins full modded. You'll love it!

I'll visit Montenegro one day, but Slovenia first. That is a land of dark forests and wonders.

Gahd, I have to play so many games but my laptop is old and slow as shit now. Saving up for a new one. About time too.

I almost went to Slovenia. Really bummed about it. Went to Vietnam instead. You Europeans! Have all these great places you can visit in such a small continent D:
