He actually cursed himself, since his powers had their own meaning and purpose, and he used them for something else entirely. This caused his souls to twist unto itself and gradually destroy his own body.

His powers were meant to replenish life, he cannot create it from nothing, but he could restore life where it was tainted or lost. His powers can go into the atomic level, allowing him to manipulate matter to the last particle. His misuse of his abilities caused them to twist his soul, and since the two cannot be separated, once he dies, he cannot inhabit another body without that one burning in mere seconds. His souls will not vanish though, it will merely be misshapen.
