Description So this was my life for a month. Its a full face foam latex procthetic and a piece on here chest.

I hate it and soon wish to redue it on a model that can do all demanding tasks of 'don't move' and 'keep your eyes closed'

My work is not treasured to me I want real feedback. I know the edges show and that its buckling around her neck because the bitch can't sit still but honest feedback is needed so take a second look and please tell me what worked and what didn't or else I'm not going to get anywhere...please...

Ok that aside, its was applied with pros-aid and edges were sealed with latex and another thing I can't remember the name of (ryver help me out i know you are reading this) painting done with an airbrush and carbon powder was used for the blacks. I wanted it too be much more detailed with the blacks and have more greys and depth to it but teh model desided it was too dark and tried to add pink to herself to lighten it up. unfortunatly it was a group projuect so I couldn't slap her, but it was really fear of hurting the mask that stopped me. I plan to redue this on another model if she says yes, which I'm doubting but I will so beg.

In all it was about 18 hours in class prep work, 6 hours sculpting because I kept changing it, 3 hours refining, 4 hours to apply (should have been 2 but thats a story I want to pretend never happened)

Thanks, in a perfect world were I had full artistic control I would have liked to have had a bit more grey based colours to keep it a little less "classical make-up" but it got snuck in a bit.

Amazing work! you did it really nice. I'm studying a course of make-up, prosthetics, hairstyling, fx... and I'd love to do something like that someday

This is great, and if you wanted to do it on a short crooked disabled man instead of a beautiful woman I would let you do that to my face just to be able to be in the film or whatever. That rocks. That design is utterly cool, it's so Brian Froud, it's like leafy praying mantis or something like that -- fey and so deep in the natural world, the Sandman sort of fey that aren't always nice guys. I think if I were wearing it I'd wind up roleplaying something a lot like Neil Gaiman's version of Robin Goodfellow. The merry psychotic...

Mother of God yur the first person to get the Froud insperation and I made teh damn thing nearly two years ago! I went a bit more on the simple side because it was my first mask and I'm sorry I could not have handled his level of detail for first time around. It was more the pressed feary books that got this rolling becuase the model wanted to look "pretty" and I wanted to make her look like a road kill orc becuase anything cute. So we comprimised on feary... shes lucky there were mirrors all around or the paint job would have been much darker and colourful.

Good eye and good taste with Froud.

Wow, umm thanks... that was unexpected! -why can't I find a blushing face-

Altho the natural reaction is to vote for my own I think I'm gonna have to vote for tattoodone's work of Avery's face (bloody girl screaming) because :iconryvermaden: and I did the make-up for the photo that image was taken from; shot by

He did such a badass job of it!

Great work! I love the nose and chin especially, it's so smooth and great colours! I agree that more depth could've been added to with some more shading. It flows nicely though.
I think it is practically impossible to get a 'perfect model', wearing all of that crap is completely uncomfortable and you need a super abundance of patience just to sit there for 4+ hours.
I don't think I've ever had a perfect model and I doubt I ever will...

Thanks nice to have back-up. I think all models should be cadavers. Then the complaining would stop. Only issue would be the smell.

Beautiful work on the face... Can't comment on the chest - can't see enough, but the buckle at the top makes the shape less... human. I like!

The only possible improvement I can think of would be to add perhaps a bit more texture/color on the chest piece (i.e., a hint of cleavage and/or bones of the ribcage/sternum showing through). Other than that, I would tell you that you seem to underrate your artwork!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lou-femi In reply to sidhehannah [2006-05-28 20:18:17 +0000 UTC]

Underrating keeps me humble. Your right in retrospect it would have been nice if the two peices looked more like thy belonged together but I made the mistakle of focusing too much on Lacy's face and ignored the chest peice completely. Oops for me.

Sounds like you had a shit of a time doing this. Completely understand out damn models that can't sit still or leave it alone and let you do your thing...you know what I mean. I'm applying my final piece on Monday...ahhhhh! The character is a really cool design, just a pitty that you threw in the towel on the paint job and stuff. But i'm sure if you get the right model who will do all those good things it will look a heck of a lot different and better.

Sweet misery loves company. I just don't get why then move when they are the ones who will get hurt. That is unless she wanted carbon in her eyes. Shes a freakin' artist too so we should pawn some of your nasty models off on her.

dexysreverie [2006-04-18 21:30:00 +0000 UTC]

i'd say blend the grey into the yellow more on the forehead, shade that part in particular a little more. and like you said, more depth with different shades would have been nice, but honestly it does looks great the way it is.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lou-femi In reply to dexysreverie [2006-04-19 23:12:07 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for the feedback. By the time I got this far I gave up so the blending that would have made the shadows look real wasn't going to happen. My best hope is that only people who don't understand light/shadows will see this.

And as a friend who you know will tell you strait up...

the shading is shit.

But you know that, because it was your model who wouldnt stay still for it.

ps. I say if we work with anyone, we just work with eachother. Everyone elce I know in this field are idiots. GAH incompitence.
pps. And you know If I was aloud to actualy touch our damn project, ours wouldnt have turned out like crap.... well you know

lou-femi In reply to RyverMaiden [2006-04-13 03:20:50 +0000 UTC]

I did the highlights adn the only part of the paint that was out of my control was the contour and the model pulled away befor I could finish the blackening of her eyes.

I didn't want to say so when I saw it but god did it look dried out, the brains looked like my heart after it had been in the open for 3 days.

RyverMaiden In reply to lou-femi [2006-04-13 03:24:12 +0000 UTC]

ok is that a good coment with the brains or a bad one.
I know they were going for the CSI dead brain look.
Not my choice of culking. Neet idea, badly exicuted.
Highlights look good, but the dark could have been blended better.

it would have looked kick ass if you had done it.

cabo-bondo. Im sure thats the word you were looking for, but you should know it because it's on mondays exam!

You said something about me being fairly calm after the application with my group? Thats because I have given up. It looked like a botched haloween mask application.
Some 50 dollar piece of crap bought from a wearhouse in late october, applyed by a race of people who do not have the luctury of apposable thumbs.

Asside from that, Im sure we passed and as soon as I get my MUA, and a couple months of working my ass off with no social life... I plan to high tail it around the world and do things the way I want to do them.... well except with you cause you seem to be the only other person picky enough for me to work with... even though at about the 5 hour mark in a 12 hour photoshoot we start snapping at eachother.

OK. so that set aside, and ignoring the fact that I put my work up on devient art (Im not keeping it there long) Were going to ignore the fact that that this project even happened. I, from now on, am stating I learnt prostetic creation through osmosis, while sleeping on a book on how to create prostetic masks.

Well after seeing the original sculpt being made there isn't too much differing, though it's highly unfortunate that you have to work with complete effing morons. As far as the wrinkling around the neck goes, it seems to work....I'm not entirely sure what you're intentions with it were, aside from no wrinkling, but the colours add greatly to the effect to make her look like a shrivelled old hag-fairy-thing. The only thing I'm not really a big fan of (aside from the model you unfortunately had to work with for it) is the colour. I think maybe a more flesh-toned colour without such dramatic highlights would be cool...the yellow just kinda sticks out a bit much. However....despite the troubles, it turned out well.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lou-femi In reply to Abelcain [2006-04-13 03:54:04 +0000 UTC]

Well the contours were mixed and started by kyla and then she desidedto quit and give me the gun instead they were to be deep purple into black and the yellow was to be the base highlight into while, it was to be all about contrast but then the model pulled out so it kinda flopped for colour. Thanks for the bits of encouragment.
