Description
Hey everyone !! I hope you're fine ^-^
I wanted to continue to show a little about my city, Lyon, after the Lake of the Parc de la Tête d'Or ^^
Here, it's a fountain I really love to see when I have free time, and when I have the opportunity to do a walk into my city It's the Fontaine des Jacobins, which is located in the Place des Jacobins, a square located in the 2nd arrondissement of Lyon.
There was another fountain in this square, by Louis Danton, but was removed in 1866. Another one was inaugurated in 1868, to commemorate a politician who was not liked x3
The actual fountain was the culmination of two successive competitions in 1878. The fountain is proposed by Gaspard André (1840-1896) ; and the four statues was made by Charles Jean Marie Degeorge (1837-1888), only in 1885. The four statues represent :
- Jean-Hippolyte Flandrin (1809-1864), painter who painted Young Male Nude Seated beside the Sea, which is in the Louvre. It's the only statue who was made in Paris.
- Gérard Audran (1640-1703), engraver who engraved Le Brun Battles of Alexander (for example).
- Guillaume Coustou the Elder (1677-1746), a royal sculptor for Louis XIV and Louis XV, becoming also Director of the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture in 1735.
- Philibert de l'Orme (1514-1570), royal architect and writer.
(And yes, all of them were born in Lyon ^^ )
After that, the fountain is inaugurated at July 14th, 1885.
I took this picture yesterday, when I returned to Lyon after a week of holiday I thought it could be a nice opportunity to take this one
Have a great day, and take care of yourself !!
