I love Lotor. He is so much more that what the writers made him out to be. He exists in a moral grey area, but in the world of Voltron there is only black and white, so anyone who is a shade too grey must be evil according to the writers.
Seriously he could have been so much more interesting if they stuck with the morally ambiguous route with him rather than the cliched power mad tyrant.

Omg! I agree on so many levels! He's my second fav in the show and I was so disappointed how it ends for him.. He's not a villain, he's so much more than that as you said.. He's like us, I mean a human being in real life, with flaws, making bad decisions and all, but it doesn't make you evil so far... Plus he needed so much love.. I love how deep this character was but I hate how everybody blame him and how he became the last two minutes.. It doesn't make sense to me argh.. I'm so glad I'm not the only one to think that! Anyways, I love him so much too!

While I think he was more than a tyrant, he was still a vile person. He had a hand in the murder of hundreds if not thousands of Alteans. He could have been an ally, but there was still a lot of evil in him.
That being said his last few minutes of screen time were complete garbage and ignores everything he was saying and trying to do. In short, he was a on some level a monster, but he had noble goals and many a world leader can tell you how often lives are lost when you are trying to achieve your goals.

I do see bad in him but not evil.. I know what he did wasn't good and all but he didn't do it by pure villainess or for some evil reasons.. His purpose was great actually, he just made a bad decision but I can't blame him knowing how broken he was and how he was raised and by who... So to me he just didn't know how to do it in another way than the one he took... Sure it's still horrible tho and I agree that doesn't make him less a tyrant.. But he didn't do it for evil, unlike his parents..

The road to Hell is paved with good intentions. Lotor is an interesting character, but he was pretty vile with his disregard for Altean life. Yes he saved them and it was for a good cause, but he killed a lot of them to get where he was in the series. I understand that his environment was different, but that doesn't change the fact that he has the deaths of thousands on his head.
I do think that he was mistreated and was not pure evil, but there was evil in him and in reality I would have him still be with the Paladins, but they would still hold what he did against him and I would kill him to redeem himself for all of the pain he caused. I understand that he is sympathetic and his life was hard, but that does not excuse the murder of thousands of innocent people.

Sure the facts are the facts and this is horrible. And I know he still remains a murderer of mass. I don't say his childhood and his story are an excuse for what he did but I can't considerate him as the only responsible for this. I just can't blame him entirely, knowing all his backstory, I've got empathy actually. Also nobody gave him the chance to explain himself. I find it sad, he never really got the trust of the team and the second they knew, he was ejected like he was nothing and all the good he achieved didn't count.. So yeah I think he deserved better in the show but yes you're right, the fact thousands of innocent people lost their lives still remains a tragedy and I don't see any excuses for that, just looking the intentions more than the results.

OK it get what you are saying. I understand that the circumstances surrounding him shaped him, I just feel that intentions are not enough to justify results.
Still you are right, he deserved a chance to explain himself and no one really gave him that or remembered that it was because of him that there were any Alteans left. Still in a world of black and white there is no room for grey. No opportunity to explore the lines that separate what is "good" from what is "evil". Hopefully we will see more of Lotor in the last season and they will be able to correct some flaws they made with his character.

I understand and respect your opinion.
Yeah that's a shame...
Unfortunately I don't think if Lotor shows up, there will be corrections... If he's corrupted by the quintessence, when he'll return he won't be himself at all and the worst of him will be seen I think. So we can say bye bye to diplomacy this time ... But I can only hope you're right!

With any luck he will be able to redeem himself and the writers can write their way out of the hole they dug for him. However, I am not exactly hopeful that they will end his story that way.
