Description This is for ~ManiacalMew for winning first place in PokemonCreativities' Pokemon Contest.

It took me some time, but I finally finished it College has been holding me up, so I apologize for the wait.

The request was two pokemon exploring a forest, and those pokemon are Treecko and Cubone. It's been so long since I've done backgrounds XD I have never drawn trees well. And I've never did moss on trees before either, but I did my best to make the background look cool, and I added Celebi's Shrine, so maybe they are on a mission to help protect Celebi

I did this mostly with markers and outlined everything with pen. Also edited this drawing with Gimp.

I hope everyone likes this, and please, tell me what you think of this Thank you so much for looking and have a great day.

Yeah, It took me some time to do it, I was trying to go over the layers so the marker lines wouldn't show up as much
Thank you so much for the wonderful comment

I can't draw with markers. I don't know how to choose the right colours and my drawings end up looking like crap.
You're welcome! :3

With markers, if I want lighting I just leave it white, and if I want shades I just usually go with a darker color shade of the same color, I don't know how to do all those complicated stuff with them, I like to keep them simple. I'm sure you can do it I've went to youtube sometimes to learn how. But I simply can't use prismacolored markers at all, I just use regular crayola markers, they work better for me.

Sorry for the long comment XD

I'm not a pro when it comes to complicated stuff either. xD Youtube, hm? I'll take a look at that. Yeah, crayola pencils and markers are perfectly fine, in my opinion. I just happen to use Prismacolor because my mom bought me some. xD

It's okay! I love long comments (they help me practice my english ).

Yeah, Youtube works great I always go there for advice.
That's good your mom bought them I just recently started using them, but for markers I'll stick with Crayola brand.

Cool!

Oh yeah, some of my friends are over 20 and living with them too, but they all work and go to school. I don't. I was depressive for a moment, and now... I don't know. I just... wait for nothing.
Really? Nice. ^^

Well, I don't have a job, but I do go to school.
You shouldn't feel bad though, something amazing will happen and that just means that you are really close to your mom too There's a lot of people who work but don't have good relationships with anyone. And you seem to be a really nice person too
And yes

Aww I love it!
The composition is great, first thing my eyes went to was the two explorers, then the shrine (nice touch by the way!)
And I love all the moss on the trees, I have a thing for mossy trees
Thank you so much for drawing it!

Thank you so much
I'm so happy that you like it
And thank you, the moss on the trees probably took the longest time to do, I've never drawn trees or moss at all XD but it was pretty fun to do.
You're welcome!

I can imagine! Covering large areas in traditional media is always rather time consuming, I commend you for sticking with it
And I don't like it, I love it

Thank you again I wish I could do digital art, but I don't know where to start with that. Yay That makes me happy

For me it was a case of figuring out how to use the layers in Photoshop. Before I understood how they worked, I got very confused with the program and didn't know where to start with it. I don't know which aspect you struggle with, but I think looking up a tutorial or getting a book for beginners and working on that one aspect might help
Well that is, if you want to do it obviously! (I'm probably trying to be helpful where the help isn't particularly wanted )

I wish I had Photoshop, but I have Gimp instead, and I've been trying to practice with it when I can. And I'm confused about the layers and how to get the outline digitally done XD But thank you for the advice
And I want help XD

ManiacalMew In reply to Lovely-Autumn [2012-08-30 11:26:27 +0000 UTC]

I've not used Gimp before, but assuming the layers work similarly to Photoshop...
The easiest way to draw a digital outline is to create a new layer and draw it on the top one. Usually in the layers pallette there's an icon you click for creating a new layer. Then you just click the topmost layer to select it and use a pen tool to draw on the 'page'. That you can keep the lineart seperate from the colours. Then you click the layer underneath and do all the colouring on that without having to worry about going over the lineart.

I get the feeling all that probably wasn't very helpful. Yeah, definitely try to find a good beginner's tutorial. But I can safely say that after you get used to it the layer system is a lot simper than it seems at first , because I was in the same boat at one point and really did not understand it at all. Then it just sort of clicks.
Keep practicing as you are, that's the best way

Oh, okay, now I understand the layers more.
I played around with Gimp this morning and found the layers, so I'm going to try that, I didn't know about coloring the lower layer like that, thank you for explaining it
I will try to find one and practice
