Description In 1986, the National Model Railroad Association held its annual convention in Boston. I painted several pieces to sell or put up to auction. This turned out to be a profitable venture, and I regret I didn't repeat it for the next conventions I attended. Ah, well.. I recently found the 35mm negatives of the pictures I had taken. After scanning and some clean-up in PhotoShop to take out some of the discoloration of 25 years of bad storage, I hope they look okay.

Cedar Hill Yard was a major facility of the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad located at New Haven, Connecticut. The huge concrete coal tower dominated the scene. It still stands, as far as I know. A New Haven 2-10-2 stands here waiting to burn the fuel it has just taken on.

Acrylic on canvas.

I can confirm that as of 2015, the coal tower still exists, and the eastern portion of the yard is still active under CSX/Providence & Worcester. However, a good chunk of it was sold off about 10-20 years ago and replaced by shopping malls.
