Description ~~~ Disney Moments: Aladdin – To Be Free…~~~
(Created 10.12)

Phew, wow, my first Fanart in a long LONG time… I really wish I could create at least one Fanart in a week, but alas, life (rolling eyes) has to get in the way… Geesh… who invented that stupid thing?

Btw, I’m trying DA’s new system of selling downloadable content, and this is my first attempt (Yay). I was curious how it works and if I can actually sell through it.
So you are welcome to Download this artwork at a high res FULLHD (1920x1080) file for a small fee of points (YES, you can pay with points here, actually you can ONLY pay with points here, DA…). This is for personal use only. You are NOT allowed to publish, print, sell or do anything that violates the artists (me) copyrights and ownership of this artwork.
However, you ARE allowed to use as wallpaper, save in your collection, stare at it for hours till your eyes pop out or whatever (kids, don’t try this at home).

A few words on the drawing itself: With Jasmine I deliberated with 2 scenes to draw – this one (which I ended up drawing) and the “oh, Jafar… Take me! TAKE ME NOW!!!” scene. This deliberation ended up with me deciding there will be yet another series called “seductive Disney” or something like that (it’s a working title). But that will happen only after I finish this current series, with about 7-9 more characters to go (so don’t get too excited yet……perverts….). “A Whole New World” was too obvious to use of course, plus, emm.. Aladdin was kinda stuck there with Jasmine so I couldn’t really use any of the song’s moments.

So anyways, I picked this scene because I think that it’s a key moment in Jasmine’s character build showing the viewers that she’s basically a bird in a golden cage, or even worse – birds can actually fly away while she cannot. I also kept having the song from the -Disney Parks Aladdin Musical- called “To Be Free”, sung by Jasmine herself. I really love that song btw (people are now googling to see what I’m talking about). So it was pretty clear in my mind what I’ll be drawing.

I do have to admit that I was a bit lazy this time and kinda, well… emm… took the bird cage and the little pool there from a screen shot and integrated it into my background, fixing it a little bit (had to draw a bottom to the cage, add some shades to the pool and clean a little bit). So those are not my creation, sorry, please don’t hate me because I’m beautiful (and lacking the time and motivation to draw backgrounds)

Besides that, it’s shines and sun flares are usual. I also drew her hair without those blue hair bands. I do love them and the overall design of Jasmine’s hair, buuuuuuutt… you know me :devilplot: I had to have that massive massive hair (I think it even weights more than Meg’s hair) flying in the wind. And besides! There IS a scene in the movie when Jasmine brushes her hair and it’s untied, so it counts as authentic and not some girl’s fantasy to be bathed by Disney characters’ hair and smell it and touch it and brush it and…. Emm… ehem ehem…

Story time?

------

I was thinking hard what to write about this movie, cause frankly I don’t recall any significant moment in my life tied to this film.

What I do remember is that Aladdin was the second movie I had on video (the first was The Lion King, please refer to my story on my Pocahontas Disney Moments artwork fav.me/d2wb2i4 ) AND in English (remember, I’m from Israel so Hebrew is the native language and most kids own Heb Dub movies, yak 8P ), but I actually borrowed that copy for a while from a friend who’s dad lived in the US. Back then my whole Disneymania was only starting to brew so I remember having a borrowed copy and only later on when I had a whole bunch of those I went and bought my own copy.

But I do think Aladdin was the very first Disney Soundtrack I owned. It was the first time I ever been abroad, it was in the US at some mall or something, frankly I don’t remember. We were walking around and my brother told me I should check out this store and I was like “eee, ok, doesn’t look all that interesting, but ok” (<-realizing only YEARS later I actually entered the DISNEY STORE!) and swiftly checking the shelves I thought “hmmm… I’m on a trip, I should buy something at least” and I just bought my first CD player (this is 1995 and Israel is not America) so of course I would buy a CD and I saw Aladdin and maybe Beauty and the Beast, not sure, or The Lion King, wow I really don’t remember, I only have a vague picture of the CD stands. Anyway, ya, I miss those days when you saw the movie in the cinema and then went a day later to the store to buy the Soundtrack, because it’s the only thing close enough to owning the movie till you actually own the movie months later, and it always had that special smell and texture and when you open the booklet you hope it would have tons of pictures from the movie….ha…. the good old days….. of downloading 1 tiny min…. of super low… resolution trailer… emm.. for 3 hours… from the… dial up modem internee….. ok I change my mind. Still, nostalgic memories.

One last thing I remember, which is actually related to the Soundtrack, is in the song Prince Ali Reprise sung by Jafar. There is a part at the very end where he sings “So long, ex-Prince Ali!”. Ok, so one day back then, little young me was listening to the soundtrack. My English was not all that great back then, btw. So I was listening and suddenly I was like hearing “Shalom, ex-Prince Ali!”. To all the non-Hebrew speakers here “Shalom” means “Hello” or “Goodbye” (or “Peace” actually) so it kinda made sense. Also Hebrew is related to Arabic so that also kinda made sense, since the movie is about Arab people. I remember running to my brother telling him “you have to listen, he’s saying Shalom!!!” and my brother was like “no way! Why would he say that” and (after he burst my bubble) I had to agree with that. So I had a new theory that Jafar is saying “Sa-lam”, which is the same as “Shalom” but in Arabic (same word, only sounds a bit different), plus the salesman at the beginning of the movie is saying “Sha-lam and good evening…” for sure, so it had to be it!
And so for many years I was positively sure Jafar was either saying Sa-lam or Shalom.

No… I did not bother to check the Lyrics coming with the Soundtrack…
=^#^=

I wrote too much.
Thank you for listening and viewing my work.
Your humble servant,
Liron.

Those birds did not wait for a second before flying out. but I doubt they survive out in the desert.
