Is there any type of magic that is underestimated but can be useful/powerful if used correctly? I think sound might be one of them. You could make someone deaf if you tried.

People tend to think of Hand (strength), Arrow (speed + range) and Gear (energy) magic as the only offensive magic because they're the only ones that can give huge advantages in battle with only very simple spells, and Gear especially is the only magic that can generate traditional attacking spells, with fireballs.
But every magic can be extremely useful in combat, and Fissure and Sound especially can be the most deadly and painful if used at full skill and power.
Just like you said, you could make someone deaf with it, but you could also dislocate their head with infrasounds. It's something that clashes with the perceived softness of sound magic.
