Here’s a reference for my Kopa with adult and cub version (cub version doesn’t have his mane tuft yet).

Alright, well I guess since I’ve done a few pieces with him, I might as well elaborate on my headcanon for Kopa.

Yes, I subscribe to the idea that that the cub at the end of TLK is Kopa and he was probably conceived during the “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” scene.

As Simba and Nala’s first born, Kopa was viewed as the something of a golden child. His birth was a seen as an omen of renewal for the land and the beginning of a new era after Scar’s dark reign. The apple of the prides’ eye, and Kopa pretty much fulfilled the role of the responsible son and Prince. He was kind of on the quiet side and since he was the only cub around the ones closest to him were his parents. Kopa wasn’t much of an outgoing cub, but one thing that could get him talking was the history and legends of the kingdom’s rulers. The young Prince was enamored with tales of the Great Kings. Kopa also had a knack for memorizing the kingdom’s laws and traditions. What he didn’t have was a great ability to socialized or read other’s feelings. Basically my version of Kopa is the bookish, reclusive scholar archetype. Also, yes, Nala nicknamed Kopa Fluffy.

Although as much as his parents took time to spend with him, they were still King and Queen and had duties to attend to and sometimes Kopa longer to have other cubs around to play with. Eventually his wish would come true when Nala announced she was expecting the ruler’s second cub. Unfortunately, Kopa wouldn’t get to meet his other siblings until adulthood.

I haven’t fully decided or planned out the story of him going missing during TLK 2, but I have a loose idea. Kopa was sent along on a diplomatic envoy that was sent to repair relations between the Pridelands and another kingdom (Scar pretty much closed off foreign relations during his reign). Kopa was brought along to probably meet a possible betrothal candidate. Along the way traveling to this other pride, the envoy was attacked by a band of hyenas. During the fight, one hyena took mercy on Kopa due to him only being a cub, and let him escape. When the dust settled, those that survived the hyena attack couldn’t find the Prince and were forced to abandon the trip and returned to Priderock. Kopa on the other hand got lost in No Lion’s Land and wandered around aimlessly until he finally found his way back home. (And if you’re wondering why Simba and Nala weren’t with the envoy, Nala was too pregnant to travel and kingdom was too unstable and vulnerable (because of Zira) for Simba to be able to leave. In their stead, they sent Sarabi as head figure for the delegates and Kopa’s chaperone).

As I said in my other post, Kopa inherits Simba’s coloration and basic build (although his pelt is a creamier gold, his mane is slightly darker, and he’s a bit skinner than his father).

From Nala he gets her eye color, uncolored paws, colored eyebrows, and facial features, such as nose, muzzle, and chin shape.

Kopa also gets a similar eye shape to Sarabi’s and her earrims with Mufasa’s thick eyebrows.

My main goal was to make him look a lot like Simba from afar but more different on a closer look. I don’t know if I succeeded, but I’m happy with what I came up with.
