Yeah, I ship these two. Sue me.

Like many others within the TLK fandom, I stumbled across Kopa and the KopaXVitani ship when I was first started exploring TLK fan content, mostly through AMVs, video edits, and tribute videos on YouTube. Then I went further and found DevianArt and discovered fanart. And yeah, I’ve become attached to the thought of Kopa and Vitani being an item.

I know this ship has its critics and haters, but I don’t understand the argument that Vitani can’t be her tough, snarky, tomboy self if she’s with paired with a guy. She can’t still be scruffy and angular and unique in her design? Strong women can’t be with guys?

I’m not saying you’re wrong if you don’t like this ship, that’s fine. Everyone has their preferences, I just don’t understand the vitriolic hate. This is suppose to be fun, guys, calm down.

Anywho, Vitani is still a fierce warrior who just so happens to be with Kopa in my TLK ‘verse. I’ll elaborate on Kopa himself on another day, but I like to think he’s a bookish nerd (lions don’t have books but you get the idea) and is into the kingdom’s history of rulers. Sometimes he’ll ramble and info-dump stories about history to Vitani, who likes to listen to her mate talk while they stargaze together. They’ll spar together or hunt with each other as dates (with Vitani showing off her athletic skills). Also these two banter a lot with Vitani’s penchant for having a sharp tongue and Kopa having an underlying witty side.

I added scars to Vitani because I’ve seen other artists say that there’s no way the Outlanders weren’t battle scarred and they’re right. As for Kopa’s design I wanted to keep him resembling Simba but still have some of Nala’s features. So he has Simba’s build and coloring (though his pelt is a more creamy gold and has a darker mane than Simba) and has Nala’s eye color, colored eyebrows, uncolored paws, chin, nose, and muzzle shape. I also give him Sarabi’s eye shape and ear rims with Mufasa’s thick eyebrows. I don’t know if all that reads, but that was my thought process.
