this is just so amazing.....it look scompletely real. i was convinced it was a photograph untill i saw your pencil and brush in some of the pics. its just so...real....
i noticed (mostly in the newer pics) that there are a lot of highlight working stuff. do you use something for then like white charcoal, or just leave the spaces? it looks so amazing.....i am dumbfounded, really....

thank you! I don't use white chalk I just leave the spaces as white as the paper is. I draw "around" them or erase them with a putty rubber or some blu-tack .
I've also bought an electric eraser , but after having done this drawing, so I didn't use it here.

wow.....see, i tried that, but it just never worked....of cource, i use a pink eraser which i'm told is bad), so thats prolly why....
did it take you a long time to get up to this level of....awesome? i know the whole 'practice makes perfect' thing, i tell people that myself, but did it take you like....years? (no offense or anything....im just curious)
o, and thanks for the links!

I've always like to draw a lot. I've started drawing portraits at the age of around 18-20 then I stopped and started again a few years ago. I'm thirty-one now..
I think the "improvement" started when I started to observe a lot more other people's work and tried to understand how to render facial features in a more realistic way.
Never stop to observe and to learn, it's a long process but it leads you of course to another level.

hmm...yeah, i've been trying....
and actually, i think i have improoved at leas a little...
your work is just amazing. for th elongest time, before i started exploring other medias, grapgite was all i had. i thought i was good...but then i saw deviantArt. artists like yourself just baffled me (and still do!)...its just so...beautiful. like....in your pics, i absolutely thought it was a photograph. you would be crazy good at tatoos...especially portraits.
thank you so much for the advice, i really appreciate it alot...

How do you give the skin texture? I'm totally going to try the paint brush thing next picture I draw (and boy I need some good paper the computer stuff just aint cutting it anymore)

I add graphite with a paintbrush, then I erase some dots with a kneaded eraser, then I add graphite again with the paintbrush just touching fastly the paper with the point of the brush.

That is brilliant, you're definitely a great artists. I love how the eyes are so realistic. The shading thus far is great, I should try out shading with a paint brush.

Wow, utterly fantastic so far. How do you use the brush to shade?

Gotcha. Might have to try that, the next drawing I do. Sometimes it feels like the shading stumps aren't precise enough.

Eh, I don't think that. They're great for giving things texture, but I find them to be a real pain in the ass to use for large areas that need a consistent value. Which is probably why I don't do portraits of women. Can't get 'em smooth.

Just loving thw way this is coming out!!!! Thanks for the WIP explanations. It really helps!!! I'm new at this so excuse my nieve questions...did you use the thin brush with graphite powder to create the shadows?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
LucaTedde In reply to lizarts [2005-06-02 09:34:05 +0000 UTC]
yeah... though I don't use it really loaded with graphite powder, I just rub it on a dark area to load it and then I caress the paper where I want to create a delicate shadow.
