Description

The Knightly Order of Gold has been defending Aliria for centuries. Ever since the days before solar rifling technology, their armor was the toughest and most impenetrable in the galaxy. Their training is second to none. They are the most well trained, well equipped, and fearsome melee fighters in all of the galaxy.

Although other countries also have knightly orders or hire mercenaries who also wear blast protective armor, it is said nothing can penetrate the armor of a Knight of Gold. While most armors in the galaxy are made of Aurenium, a blast-deflective metal, the armor the knights wear is said to be made of an alloy of many other different metals, created via a combination of very specific types and quantities. The armor they wear and the weapons they wield are a mystery to all other factions in the galaxy. How they are made and with what has been a long kept secret, known only to the highest member of the order, the Order Captain. Along with the protective runes cast through a mysterious method unlike common runes, the armor each knight wears is made by them, so every armor, and every knight, looks different. What they use to identify one another is the Alirian shield coat of arms they all have on their chest. Their specialty in combat and their unique skills require that they are deployed in the most challenging campaigns, to shift the tide of the battlefield.
In battle, they can be decisive. Their armor allows them to rush enemy formations without penalties, and wreck havoc on enemy lines. That is why other factions and countries utilize melee fighters to keep them at bay and protect the regular infantry. Their prowess, however, is second to none. Knights of Gold always fight in trios. They will be paired with two others, and will create a lasting bond with their comrades, almost like a brotherhood. Although not officially being part of the government, the Knights of Gold can influence even the highest ranking nobility if they truly wish to. However, they mostly stay out of political affairs, save for rare exceptions.

Their method of recruiting can be both hereditary (one can be born into the order), or it can be through patronship, where a knight sees the potential in someone, and recommends them to join the order. This is only reserved for the greatest, most honorable warriors of Aliria. Their armor and weaponry is extremely expensive to make, and only those trained for years can achieve a level of proficiency with it. However, it truly compensates. Three Knights of Gold are able to turn the tide of a battle in favor of the Alirians. Their rite of initiation is brutal, with merciless trials by fire that would make the most specialized marines of the Federation shiver. They are taught for years how to best utilize their weapons, their training, and their comrades, and at the end, they are awarded with a shield crest and the opportunity to build their own armor. Once their armor is done, they are no longer a squire, but a fully fledged knight. To have the golden armor vested upon them is the greatest honor one can achieve in their lives.
It is said they also drink from a special fountain that has enchanted water, and they become faster and stronger, almost possessing a sixth sense. Those are but rumors spread by the Alirian peasantry and Federation sailors... Probably.
