Description Hey all, heres an older work of mine,
100% 3D

I want this to give the feel that we are looking into a professional killers sanctum or home, Where everything is clean, cold and calculated!

software.. maya, nuke, mentalray.

Heres my demo reel "video" of other work. creatures, robots, explosions all that good stuff.. [link]

Cheers for viewing!

I don't even think this is a 3d.

It just looks too damn real for it to be a 3d.

I'm sure I wasn't asking where you worked.

I was just commenting on how good this looked in 3d.

Jesus! If I hadn't seen the rest of your gallery, I'd call bullshit on the 3D render. This is just so flippin' real. From the scratches, nicks and dings on the case and gun to the wrinkling of the paper notes.
That month was definitely worth it. Although, I'm pretty sure that the end of the barrel protrudes from the gun...

haha.. thanks man . and you are right. The barrel normally does protrude,.. But I was using my bb gun for reference and that part had broken off of mine

what are your usual settings for mental ray to get such high quality renders?

Lucid-Grey In reply to AtheistNation [2012-06-03 02:11:34 +0000 UTC]

I havent used mental ray for some time, But its all in the lighting..

KimberlyWhite [2012-06-01 23:46:51 +0000 UTC]

They're just 20s. I'd imagine that a hitman costs at least $1000.

Lucid-Grey In reply to KimberlyWhite [2012-06-03 02:12:08 +0000 UTC]

haha, yep.. this is the ghetto hitman!

KimberlyWhite In reply to Lucid-Grey [2012-06-03 05:12:04 +0000 UTC]

Cool but would you consider maybe using the same 3D model but changing the denominations to 100s or 50s for artistic purposes? You spent so much time working to get the lighting right. You wouldn't wanna ruin that by using the wrong denomination.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

EdGarcia In reply to KimberlyWhite [2012-06-02 08:15:16 +0000 UTC]

You, I'd do for 50 cents

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

KimberlyWhite In reply to EdGarcia [2012-06-02 20:21:56 +0000 UTC]

There shouldn't be a comma after the 'you' in the sentence.

KimberlyWhite In reply to EdGarcia [2012-06-02 20:21:30 +0000 UTC]

Now that's not a very nice thing to say. What brought that on?

EdGarcia In reply to KimberlyWhite [2012-06-02 23:18:26 +0000 UTC]

Just teasing you because of your comment about a hit man charging $1000; In the photo(The Hitman) there wasn't a'lot of money but maybe the contract was for someone the hitter would have done for free but charged a small amount maybe even fifty cents because S/he wouldn't work for free.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KimberlyWhite In reply to EdGarcia [2012-06-03 05:08:33 +0000 UTC]

I was just suggesting that artistically, it might make sense use the same 3D model but change the denominations to 100s or maybe 50s.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

EdGarcia In reply to KimberlyWhite [2012-06-03 07:26:01 +0000 UTC]

I do agree with you that a higher denomination of currency would have probably meant a more interesting target. I served on a jury once where a guy who was supposed to do the hit got paid with a boat, It was covered by the guy who was hiring him saying to friends he lost the boat stupidly betting on a football game. Again If my statement angered or upset you i apologize as that wasn't my intention.

KimberlyWhite In reply to EdGarcia [2012-06-03 19:39:03 +0000 UTC]

I'm less offended now that you've apologized. Thank you for that.

Nitrinoxus [2012-04-18 07:19:56 +0000 UTC]

Very realistic. Out of curiosity, how long did you spend studying photos of this gun (which, if I'm not mistaken, appears to be a Beretta 92)?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lucid-Grey In reply to Nitrinoxus [2012-04-18 07:42:06 +0000 UTC]

well actually I have a beretta bb gun.. so I used that as the referance. This image took a month to complete. the model of the gun took 3 days, the case and money took probably half a day. and the rendering/ textureing took like 3 and a bit weeks.. It took this long because I was trying to match a photo of the 3 items that I took in a photography studio.

Nitrinoxus In reply to Lucid-Grey [2012-04-18 14:24:59 +0000 UTC]

Well, the work certainly paid off. A job well done.

MultiCamil [2012-04-16 10:33:05 +0000 UTC]

Woah! The model has some proportion flaws like.. the grip being too thick and plastic grip sides should be thicker, but damn, its forgivable when looking at the whole image. Hope someday I'll be able to make such textures.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lucid-Grey In reply to MultiCamil [2012-04-16 11:09:52 +0000 UTC]

haha, thanks for the info, But i matched an original photo.. the grip is perfect to the actual bb gun replica i have.. So if there is a discrepancy, itl be between the actual gun and the replica I have
Cheers!

MultiCamil In reply to Lucid-Grey [2012-04-16 13:38:38 +0000 UTC]

Must be that then I'm a weaponology maniac and know that handgun pretty well so It was the second thing I noticed on that render. The first was "omg this scene is like real".

Lucid-Grey In reply to MultiCamil [2012-04-16 21:00:23 +0000 UTC]

haha, another thing you didnt mention is the end of the barrel there is none haha,, the part that is meant to stick out broke off of my bb gun so i didnt make it ..
