Well after seeing the latest episode of RWBY (ep 15), the idea for this picture came to mind.Anyways, let me try to explain what's going on: Their background colours are representing their backstory and lifestyle. The opposite colours that they're standing on is supposed to show how the other had hurt them.
Hope that makes sense...

This is amazing...an awesome way to show the similarities between these two. How they have both suffered due to the human-faunus conflict.

Are you two being willfully biased?
Weiss isn't "just a little princess". Her character is deeper than that. Remember this line?: "I've seen family friends disappear. Board members, executed."
And when the hell was it EVER mentioned that Blake lost family and friends? That's fanon. Unless it is revealed in the show to be true, it didn't happen.
In the end, it doesn't matter who had it worse. All that matters is that they are both VICTIMS who had their childhood ruined by the human/faunus conflict.

Blake had to deal with the fact that she was working for a terrorist organization and that she couldn't escape because she didn't know where to go

she's a Faunus, less than dirt in the eyes of the public, growing up being seen as a freak and unworthy of life is worse than what Weiss suffered

We don't even know their full backstories so why are you so quick to assume all of that? Because at this point in the show, all you have are assumptions. Don't try to make Blake's childhood more horrible than it probably was. If the series show Blake going through all that stuff, then you'll have a leg to stand on.

Hold the fuck up. Weiss isn't just a racist bitch. Did you pay ANY attention to her backstory when talking about the White Fang and what was happening around her when she was just a child? Holy shit, dude. And in Volume 2, she has no problem with Blake being a member of the team WHATSOEVER. They are FRIENDS. She even shows concern for her in episodes 2 and 5. In episode 11, Blake saves her life.
I have no idea why you have so many blind-spots when it comes to Weiss' character and personality, but I would just like to let you know that you are wrong about her.

just because she is ok with Blake doesn't make up for the fact that she hates/highly distrusts all other Faunus
a tiny percentage of their race hurt her family and in turn she despises the race, she outright stated that Sun would join the White Fang after seeing him for two seconds just because he was running from the police for a very minor crime
it's basically like someone saying that everyone in the Middle East is a terrorist because of the Taliban
racism is racism and like it or not Weiss is a racist

Ho, boy. You are really reaching now. In fact, your tunnel vison in regards to Weiss' racism blinds you to the bigger picture of Weiss' character. Hell, you are trivialising her childhood trauma in order support your fanon. The mere factΒ Weiss is willing to call Blake her friend shows how much she has grown as a person between volumes, and how weak of a hold her racism has on her personality.
But like I said before, it doesn't matter who had it worse ("whose life sucks more" isn't some kind of pissing contest to be won), both Blake and Weiss are victims of a war neither wanted.

Weiss isn't a 'bad' character, i just don't see myself being able to get along with her and if she gets together with Neptune i can see them having a lot of fiery arguments over the fact that his best friend is a Faunus

This is awesome! I really like how this portrays both the general lore of the Faunus and Humans, and the backstories of Weiss and Blake.Β

This is rather important I think, I find that all the characters in Team RWBY have some degree of insecurity in their pasts that they hide through stoicism, very much played straight in the cases of Weiss and Blake. They're actually quite similar in terms of character, despite their stories being inverses of each other. They're both built around this idea of professionalism, with one being cold, but headstrong, and the other being a silent doer. Β They both have a very strong facade that they put up, or rather, it is a choice between a facade, or simply nothing being said at all.Β
We even see hints at the same ideas behind Ruby and Yang, the obvious being Ruby's intro showing her standing at the grave of someone with the same last name, as well as her introverted personality initiallly and it is very likely that Yang is similar, just hiding it behind the bubbly party-girl exterior, though we know even less about their backgrounds than about Weiss or Blake's.
This is all just theoretical however, and really aside from being the intended theme of the art, completely irrelevant.
At any rate, I like this, and find the artwork to be a clever use of color and ideas. Very well done, indeed.

Yea, I'd really like to hear Yang's backstory. Out of the four main characters, I feel like we know the least about her past.

To be honest, I think Ruby and Yang are both being ignored intentionally. I get the feeling their role in the story is going to be central to it, and their relation to Summer Rose is going to be very important later. So at this point, I think they're getting the "Non-plot-centric" characters some development first.Β
