Hey, followers.I’m sure most of you follow me for the RT/AH fan art, but if you haven’t already heard, Monty Oum, the talented animator, artist, dancer at Rooster Teeth, has been hospitalized and is in critical condition, as released by Burnie on the RT website. roosterteeth.com/news/entry.ph…
There is also a GoFundMe for him and his wife, Sheena, to cover his medical costs. Within hours, the RT community surpassed the $50K goal, and is still going now. www.gofundme.com/MontyandSheen…
I, being an artist and a science student, thus obviously poor, I’m already many thousands of dollars already in debt to the government due to my loans, and am unable to donate.
But! I can use my skills to raise awareness.
Please. I know you thought my GTA rapsheets were cool, but nothing would make me happier if you could help Monty and his friends out.
And even if you can’t donate, that’s okay. Please wish the best for him and spread the call for help.
Don’t do it for me. Do it for Monty. For if there were no him, there’d be no RWBY, RVB mocap animation, or that hugeass high score at that ‘Pump It Up’ machine down at the arcade. For if there were no him, some of us would never have become who we are as fans, followers, artists, dancers, and animators.

I've only recently gotten into RWBY, but I have completely fallen in love with it, that said, I feel guilty that I couldn't appreciate it when Monty was alive, he made something really special and it's a tragedy that he couldn't see it through till the end.

Miles, Kerry, and Gray all try very hard to honour Monty through their work, and I always feel like a strong part of Monty lives on in them as they carry the torch. Monty, at Rooster Teeth was noted for his hardworking attitude, ingenuity, efficiency, dedication and creativity. When Monty fell into coma, it was beautiful to see the art that everyone made for him. Even more so, after he passed, I could feel the heart put into the creations everyone contributed. To create, and constantly learn and improve, is to be like Monty. And thus, RWBY, this fandom, all of us, it's all Monty's legacy.

That's a really nice way to think about it, but something has been bothering me, with Monty gone, how long until the RWBY series stops going in the direction HE wanted it to go. I mean, just how much of the plot was thought out and told to the rest of the Roosterteeth staff, did Monty lay out a plan at the very beginning, or did he intend to reveal it as they went along, or did he even have everything figured out yet? To put it shortly, are the Roosterteeth staff following the plot that Monty intended for the series, or are they just winging it with him gone? I'm sure this has been answered already, like I said I'm relatively new to the fandom, but I'm really curious as to how much of the series did Monty have thought out, and how much of that does Roosterteeth have to work with now that he's gone.

Actually, Monty had planned far ahead with the rest of the crew. So, don't worry, RT is still actually carrying Monty's story. I'm almost certain that they know the entire plot line, but they never got to the more finer points that come along during production. However, the stuff you're seeing now, that's still Monty's vision. You may have also noticed that Volume 1 took a child-like wonder approach, and coming on to Volume 3, everything's gotten a lot darker and mysterious. I can feel that Miles had a lot to do with the "twists", from RVB experience, but the overarching story is still from Monty, and when you take a step back, it will be exactly as Monty intended.
In a sense, it's kind of like George R R Martin and Game of Thrones (TV). The producers already know where the story's going, in a way. Not to every detail, but they know, so if he never finishes the books, publication that's relatively close to his idea is present. Maybe not perfectly, but still his story.
You don't have to worry. They'll do their best to carry out Monty's legacy. And even then, RT's got some very talented writers for what comes after.

Well, that's a relief to hear, and it's not like I don't trust the RT staff or anything, I'm sure they'll do a great job with the series, but it's nice to know that it'll still be the show that Monty created.

Sadly I didn't really know or understand anything. I heard someone died from this group I didn't know much about the creators of RWBY and upon further search I figured out everything. I feel horrible, I can't help but think how the family and closest friends must feel it's terrible that he died. (It really makes you wonder he was apart of the team there's no way to replace him, like I said I didn't know much I read somewhere that he voiced Lie Ren, I can't imagine what is going to happen with the character it feels too impossible to believe that anyone could do what Monty Oum did or even come close.)

I'm glad that you took the time to look up Monty. As a fan, I appreciate your sentiments, and I'm sure others like me would feel the same. I also admire your utmost respect, being an outsider to a fandom. It is indeed a pity what happened, but they say pity is for the weak. I'm sure that instead of mourning a loss forever, we should celebrate the gift of selflessness that Monty gave to us all. I'm sure that the RT community will heal its wounds in time, but a scar is there, never forgotten, and never the same.

Very true, with time it should heal what can be healed. In the mean time I'm going to try to learn more about the fandom, rather then just be an outsider to it.

The only thing we can do is live up to his memory. So, go ahead and do what you're passionate about, and Monty will be reflected in yourself.
