Ta da!I decided to digitally color this picture so i could have a more brighter, sharper, clearer picture of Saffron in a more traditional Sonic style.

Since there is a lot of black on him, i had to find little places to add sime color onto him--a flower in his hair, colorful shoes and gloves, even a dark pink, little nose in lu of a black nose. And of course, bright colored eyes, the blue of which contrasts nicely against the orange of his wings--thats exactly the reason why i made them blue eyes. You might think contrasting colors are ugly as heck, but you'd be surprised at how well that color combo of opposites really works. I mean tell me those blue eyes and orange wings dont make the whole package freaking adorable.

Saffron loves, loves, loves flowers so i tried to work them into this design as a hair ornament and little decorations on his shoes. Even the pink color of his nose and the yellow puff puffs on his shoes and gloves were inspired by flowers.

I got the idea from a really good friend to add gradient coloring on the wings so they arent just a solid orange color and another really good friend told me boy monarchs have a little black perfume gland in their lower wings, and that changed his design since it prompted me to add those little black hearts on the lower wings, but they aren't really spots, those are perfum glands, because, apparently, lady butterflies like cologne. (Okay, those glands release pheromones, not exactly perfume, but im sure to a monarch, it works a lot like sexy perfume.)

As for the wings, well i thought how more detail makes a character more interesting--to a point. Sonic characters are really basic, so fan characters who have a more comprehensive design can be really amazing. But there are times, when the character can look too messy, too complicate, too overdesigned. So i thought for the wings, to make them resemble a monarch's wings, but keep this in mind---if the design looks so complicated that if you asked someone to draw it and you think they will have a really hard time drawing that feature, than it is probably overdesigned. of coures, this may not apply to everything and every kind of character, i was just applying this logic to butterfly wings on a sonic fc.

I ended up taking out more than half of Saffron spots for this version, because he has a lotta, a lotta white spots. I had to keep telling myself, keep it simple. And of course, some of the larger spots turned into heart shapes, because Saffron has a lot of love to give and wants a lot of love too.

And of course, there was picking out colors for his gloves and footwear, since my first version of Saffron doesnt wear either. Since yellow evokes feelings of warmth, safety, comfort, happiness, friendliness, i decided on using yellow and orange, both being warm colors. These colors add to the friendly look, add to the happy aura and match the wings, which works well for me, since Sonic characters generally have a basic three color scheme.

This design might look simple, but there was a lot of thought behind the smaller details. I still dont intend to stop using my original version of Saffron, and i see no reason why i cant use both, especially since i have TWO sonic AUs. This is something i did think about previously--that every character i have has another version of themselves in this second AU. Its like a multiverse idea, different realitites with different versions of the same person in each. Sometimes the alternate versions will be a little different and sometimes they wont be that much different from the main AU version of them. Like imagine there's an alternate universe version where saffron is female; and another where he's a moth instead; and another where his coloring is blue instead of orange; and another where his personality is totally different; and another where he's a full grown adult with little butterflylings of his own; and another where he's the ladybug and his ladybug friend is the butterfly and so on. This whole multiverse idea is just amazing to think about because it creates endless possibilities of how your character can be different while still being the same character.

Whew! Better wrap it up! I didnt think i was gonna end up typing this much. Well then i guess the thing to do is ask you to say hello to Saffron 2.0, who will now be residing in my 2nd Sonic AU.
