Description Thoughts: Here we see Julian Robotnik engaged in some form of discussion with this catlike individal, whose facial expression we cannot see: is it one of concern, attentiveness, or worry? The marks on Julian's pauldrons appear rather like those found on his War-Minister uniform, but their exact implication is unclear. Furthermore, Julian's expression seems quite level and anticipatory, in a serious sense. (I should note that it was meant that Julian be leaning rather heavily to his one side, such as to put his weight on his gesturing arm - perhaps in a conciliatory pose? His girth would detract from his ability to lean on any table, I imagine.) Lastly, it's curious that the cat is making use of a stylus and ink, in addition to it's other surrounding effects - such as the coarse fabric of it's enveloping clothing, and the woodgrain table.

Details: A simple sketch later became, through simple force of and use of media, a reasonable sketch. Largely dabbling with ink, watercolor, and graphite. Pose, concepts, and atmosphere all results of haste.

Materials: mechanical pencil, blue col-erase, watercolor, 6B square graphite/round stick, and black ink. Canson sketchpad paper.

Cynicide: Due to misplacements and reworking of the sketch early on, there are multiple inconsistencies in the basis of the image. My primary concern is the lack of mass/volume which Robotnik possesses, largely due to perspective difficulties. Second, my aptitude for rendering cloth, and cloth over forms, is quite poor. Capturing the appearence of fur and hair is another matter entirely.

Oh sweet. I love seeing images of Robotnik in his pre-coup days. I really wonder about his (and Snivvy's) days when they lived somewhat peacefully in the castle with all those 'filthy' Mobians. As usual, your Julian is so real and lovingly drawn. And you draw the Mobians more realistically too! XD I like it. ^^

Greetings, Lupienne.

Thank you for the comment; I have some of the same curiosities myself. For that matter, it brings to mind the fact that I've not tried drawing Snively as of yet - I wonder at how such an effort would turn out.

My current development in the project does not call for Snively, but at some time I will have to work with his appearence and concepts. They will be here among these Scraps of mine. (Yea, it is only the accomplished artwork which dare be labeled as a true Deviation.) When the time comes for Snively to make an appearence in my sketches, I am sure you will know, Lupienne.

For now, the nature of Robotnik in his time before the coup remains to be settled and tinkered with. There are a great many considerations, and to be honest, with what esteem I hold Julian to, I only hope that my own efforts are not unbecoming of me in some unknown future instance. Although my project is simply a personal effort and meant to be a standalone concept, I fear to tread too far from the spirit/essence which makes SatAM so dear to many.

For now, thank you, as always!

Heh, well I think all your work so far is good enough to escape the lowly banishment to scraps Also, I personally wouldn't worry about 'tarnishing' SatAM or anything... it's your personal take and it's not set in stone. I love seeing other people's personal versions of SatAM, and if I don't like their version it's perfectly fine... Though your visions of SatAM I'm liking quite a bit. ^^

Aaah, more of "Julian: The Ministry Days". And whatever could he be discussing with his tiny companion? Maybe he is discusing important strategy, with this mobian fellow acting as the messenger? Perhaps this is an interview being conducted with the mysterious, exotic new Warlord? Or perhaps this young fellow is a playwright, who is fortunate enough to find himself conversing with a most promiment figure in his magesty's cabinet of ministers XD

As per usual, an excellent take on our favorite soon to be dictator. I'm especially liking what you've done with the uniform; its tre sinister, lemme tell you. Like you said, the perspective is a bit off, since I'm pretty sure Julian is meant to look muuch bigger then the mobian opposite from him, but other then that things are peachy keen, as per usual ^^

Greetings, Ape. It's good to see you enlivening the DeviantART space yet again.

I'd deliberately left the expression of the feline unreadable, whilst Julian quite clearly appears involved in the matter at hand. I'm not terribly skilled at rendering subtleties of human(oid) facial expression, yet alone with something as brute as ink, but the effect here is at least passable.

Alas it remains a baseless sketch, but is a chance to work with yet another light design from Julian's Minister wardrobe. Likely more of a simliar development will follow - after all, presentation and appearence would be a common factor in his position, as it would be with any Minister or notable public figures. Julian's appearence would change with time and experience, both in his own features, and with the social status and recognition he garners from his activities - this promises a wide set of possibilities in addition to the fact that I see the Mobians as an expressive and proud people: they'd naturally project those same values onto their public superiors. It brings me to question the governing factors behind their codes of formal dress and station.

Yet in this case, there is still the matter of this discussion; the choices and maneuvering Julian is subject to will be a critical axis in his activities, and I hesitate in facing the complexities of developing such an entangled plot line - but, as I've alluded, this little project of mine is as much a study of society and it's workings (both broad and subtle) as it is over the factors of functional genius and acquisition of power and force of ambition.

However, if you would be kind enough to do the favour: what is it you find about Julian's appearence which reflects this sinister quality you speak of? I'm curious as to the subtleties which would be able to reflect these qualities without the designs having to be overpowered or lean too far into any depiction sector. Of course, the mein of Julian himself makes for half the quality/character of said robes, but I am wondering, nonetheless.

Thanks again, Ape. The comments are always appriciated (I only wish others would be moved to such input. Interaction is dear.)
