Hi everyone,
I've been working on this one since early July.
Now it is finished.
Here is an idea I’ve had in the works for some time now. Most of you should probably be familiar with the Disney adaptation of Alice and Wonderland. However, I don’t think you guys are as familiar with the other depictions I have in this drawing. Therefore, I hope I can clarify by explaining as best as I can. By comparing the other two, hopefully you all will see why I decided to draw all three of these protagonists together.
From the left, we have Coraline Jones, which is our first symbolic “Alice.” Coraline is an average kid who moves into the strange neighborhood of The Pink Palace. She finds her neighborhood to be boring and she wishes to have a more exciting life to live. Shortly after receiving a mysterious doll that looks like her, Coraline discovers a secret passage in her home. This passage leads to a world quite the opposite of the real world. Coraline wants to stay, but the Beldam that runs the opposite world, wants her soul and eyes in exchange. Naturally, Coraline refuses this offer. As punishment, the Beldam kidnaps Coraline’s parents. Ultimately Coraline must defeat the Beldam, get her parents back, as well as deciding to seal off the portal for good.
From the right, we have Fran Bow which is our second symbolic “Alice.” This heroine comes from a rather dark independent horror game. The game takes place in 1944 and it gives us some background info on Fran Bow. She suffers from schizophrenia and experiences both auditory and visual hallucinations. It also doesn’t help that her psychiatric doctor is a quack and actually prescribes pills that makes the hallucinations worse. A good majority of the game takes place in a mental hospital. This means that the various locations we visit and the other new characters that we meet, only occur in Fran Bows mind. In the game, there is one reoccurring hallucination which is the main villain of the game. His name is Remor, Lord of Darkness. He mainly exists to confuse Fran Bow, as well as to put bad memories in her brain. The goal of the game is to travel to various locations in search of your cat, Mr. Midnight.

So now, you all may be wondering why I decided to put Coraline, Alice and Fran Bow together. I’ll try to make the description as clear as I can. There are actually three main reasons why I decided to do this. The first reason, is that Coraline Alice and Fran Bow all have a cat that follows them to the various new locations. All of the cats Charlie, Dina, and Mr. Midnight, also serve as a foil for our main characters to bounce ideas off of. The second reason, is because all three of our protagonists visit various weird locations that seem nice at first, but take a turn for the worst in the end. The final third reason is that there is a main villain for all the protagonists to deal with. For Coraline, it’s the Beldam; For Alice, it’s The Queen of Hearts; And for Fran Bow its Remor, Lord of Darkness.
Anyway, this was rather fun to do.
I may do something similar in the future.
