Anyone remember this cool guy? Mystical Ninja starring Goemon was and still is one of my favorite Nintendo 64 games. It allowed me to imagine living in Japan and more than likely influenced my decision to actually move here.Related content

That game was so special to me. I remember renting it once and not getting very far -- I couldn't figure out how to control Impact. Then I think I rented it again and got SOOOO lost in it one weekend. I don't think I had a save pak, so I spent the whole day playing and getting immersed in the world -- maybe the first time in that kind of game I ever did. It was so fun.
ANyway, I love this pic! I like seeing cartoony Goemon in your fun, cartoony style. And I really love the colors here -- you do an awesome job of building up the color and lighting and it gives his face and his ninja suit so much depth. I like how you use a bit warmer tones throughout, like he's out and about at sunset. I love that rougher brush you use to draw and shade with -- I love the kind of old-timey, retro feel that gives this. It feels like it fits that medieval-ish Japan world of Mystical Ninja, but I just really love that kind of retro-illustration aesthetic in general, of using rougher brushes to transition between colors and lighting and shadows. How it feels like it was crafted carefully with a rough pencil or chalk.

ah hell yeah!,to this game that game is still one of my all time favorite N64 games too,awesome catchy music,fun characters,i love exploring that fantasy version of japan,giant robot figths,and the gourmet submarine level is one of my favorites!

I watched my brother play it when I was little, and he even got out the SNES version for us when I was ill recently, the difficulty level on that version is through the roof though. I loved the creativity and vibes fromΒ Mystical Ninja, plusΒ the music was so catchy, sometimes I still listen to it.

I definitely remember playing Goemon on the N64. It's a shame that the series isn't getting the recognition it deserves, but fantastic job drawing Goemon.
