Β I just wanted to let you know: I love you Egon!!! You are my favorite Ghostbuster. I will always remember your mischievous and reckless smile, you saying "Don't cross the streams.", you attacking Peck after he shut off the protection grid, you looking into the trap, you and the guys in the hilarious painting in the second movie and many other things. I hope one day I'll get to see your spirit, and tell you how much I love you. R.I.PπŸ˜₯

It was a big shock to all of us fans, but at least I got the opportunity to say a proper thank you by being part of this team

Oh man. I teared up when I saw this. The newspaper headlines, the snacks, the mood slime, PKE meter, ghost trap, a heavily annotated Tobins Spirit Guide.... and Spengler's uniform, hanging there in the light of one lightbulb, all ready to go....

We miss you Mr. Ramis. Always.

Beautiful tribute by you and Dan.

I know! I was too young to see the movie in theaters, so I first met them through the cartoon. We need a new generation of GB fans

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

NeroAngelus In reply to luisdelgado [2014-03-04 19:25:45 +0000 UTC]

I agree.
In an era where we could use more everyman style heroes the Ghostbusters are ideal.
At leas t once in a persons life they have met the archetypes that make up our four guys.

Ray - the enthusiast
Egon - the logical one
Peter - the skeptic
Winston - the average joe

See to me the ghostbusters are ideal for kids to not only learn of the supernatural but to also indulge in the scarey stuff with out terrifying them. In a sense you can educate a bit on culture while being entertaining. It doesn't need to be like a heavy handed education just have it produced through natural dialog like "Oh a banshee, a specter commonly located in Ireland." sure its small but hey kids now know they are Irish ghosts so its some level of folklore cultural education.

This is a franchise I had as a child, enjoyed again with Extreme Ghostbuster in my teen years and as an adult reliving those memories makes me want to do something with the franchise.
With the unfortunate passing of Harold Ramis I would feel a live action adaptation without him as Egon is regrettable.
Where as an animated show you can have voice doubles do near identical voices for the actors who had originally portrayed these characters. You can actual get Ernie Hudson back, as he does do voice over work now.

Also maybe even go into some degree of depth to certain specters and spooks really delve into some of it. Something about Danny Phantom, a cartoon I really didn't enjoy, was that despite having ghosts it didn't go into any depth about who these were as people when they were alive. That to me is a missed opportunity as you can do some much interesting stuff with these characters. Not every ghost needs a back story but heck at least give one to Slimer if he is goign to be like the GB mascot for the firehouse, otherwise why even have him. Or heck if they need a "pet" as people have often referred to Slimer as then go for liek a Ghost Dog, or something to that effect.

Also, they mentioned magic in Ghostbusters, Vigo was a sorcerer and even Ivo Shandor had some sort of knowledge of occult material. Maybe do something like bring in Kylie and make her an occultist that actual dives into a mild degree of dark arts, maybe make her like a first stage necromancer and she can do some trippy things with magic. You got 4 characters who go by tech and that is cool by perhaps add a bit of mysticism for a new generation. If we have elements like Vigo and Shandor and even the fact that they are fighting specters, shades, and ghouls then really a bit of mysticism from a ghostbuster who can perform magic isn't so far fetch to believe.

Man, you have so many important points, specially about the little cultural education and the backup story for the ghosts. And it would be really cool to add a little magic to the GB's. Anyway, all we can do is dream about new cartoons or movies, and see if somewhere in the near future we get to enjoy the guys in grey once more Thanks for sharing your thoughts, it was really awesome of you!

SweetE In reply to luisdelgado [2014-03-01 16:13:11 +0000 UTC]

Awesome! Β Dan had mentioned to me via Twitter that he'd still live on, regardless of the form. Β And I wasn't sure if he had meant Egon as a ghost, or just Egon living on through comics. Β But since you say he'll remain young and healthy through the IDW comics, I feel a hell of a lot better. Β And I'm saying this as one fan, but I'm sure the entire Ghostbusters/Harold Ramis fan base would agree, when I say thanks to you and everyone at Ghostbusters IDW, for continuing Egon's spirit (Harold Ramis') spirit with the comics.Β

So again, thank you.

It took us a while to share it with the world, it first needs to be conceived, then drawn, colored and finally approved, but I hope the fans like it. And there's gonna be something in the comics, but some of them are already on the shelves and others have already been printed, so it might take a while to see the light, sorry
