Description
Twilight means a lack of light caused by either a setting or rising sun, either the beginning or the end of the day. And that’s the initial meaning of the piece; it focuses on the beginning and the end of life, and thus we have the baby and the old man who are well defined.
And although the distorted figures behind him were an afterthought, they give the piece a whole new meaning. The scene has now turned into a family gathering where the man feels lost. For one reason or another he can only really mentally connect to the baby, while the others look like strange spirits to him.
Looking back at this piece after it was done I realized that it could also properly tell the story of Alzheimer’s. I’ve never personally came in contact with anyone who has it, but I can only imagine what it’s like to be lost in a sea of loved ones.
