Description I keep experimenting with the possibilities of linear and wave transforms, I must say I seriously enjoy this type of fractals! Expect more to come!

Rendered in Chaotica, no postwork.

As always, thank you very much everyone for all the support, I truly appreciate it!

Great colour choices and evocative 'scenery'. Reminds me of a dream I once had, about flying towards bright horizons (and I haven't yet been able to render it as a fractal or paint it, so I think your work is my new touchstone for it! Thanks!)

Linear and wave, did you say? I've never managed to create anything similar using those. Would it be possible to achieve this effect in Apophysis too?

The fractal itself is great. I really like the colour scheme and the 'painterly' texture/shapes.

I just inspected, and I don't think anything much close to this can be achieved, because to get clear "non-transparent" shapes requires gamma around 5000-10000 gamma values, and It doesn't seem possible

Ah, that's too bad - thanks for trying, though. I might have to look into getting Chaotica myself, at some point.

Happy holidays, and keep up the great work!Β Β

This stuff you've been doing recently has been really awesome Β It seems like you're picking up your own stride at working with these things, which is awesome to see! Β I'm curious about how structured something like this is, because the gradient blends the structure very nicely, but it seems incredibly tiled in nature too!

LukasFractalizator In reply to ChaosFissure [2016-12-06 16:16:26 +0000 UTC]

Thank you most kindly! I found myself a nice style that I think suits me well and shows how I learn to manipulate with colors and structure properly! It's also tricky with all those post and pre transforms, it also affects the whole structure. Another thing I discovered is that it's awesome to experiment with negative values. They give surprisingly appealing results both in coloring and structural ways, so I always try something new and that's how I try not be any pieces of mine to be same!
If you wish, I can send you the base I work with. It isn't any technical miracle, you'd be surprised how easy to make/render is this!

The way this works on the brain is very interesting. Trying to make what I was seeingΒ  match familiar patterns of things it's archived from the real world, my brain decided this was a cloudy sky over still water. It took a while for me to consciously note that the 'reflection' doesn't actually match up. I think that underlines that my brain hasΒ  some expectation for that, which I suppose makes sense given that even on a still day, a body of water may still have ripples, and if there are temperature fluctuations over the body of the water or even just the slight pull of molecular forces, it makes sense that the light reflected doesn't quite match up. If the water is coloured itself in any way, or carries any particulate matter in it, then that probably can also contribute to the reflection not being completely mirror perfect, not forgetting that of course you have to be viewing the surface water (any part of it you look at) at precisely the right angle for light to be reflected back and not just pass through. Which isΒ  why the nearer you are (look down more at the water just in front of you), you may well see bits and pieces of what actually lies in or under the water.

I think this piece of yours is great for showing how complex brains really are, and how either from genetic instinct or learned experiences, we *always* allow for the prospect that what we see isn't quite what should make sense as an absolute rule. We accommodate the prospect that a multitude of factors are at play at any given time, so whilst we look for patterns, we're willing to accept an awful lot of variation in patterns we think we're seeing before we decide "That's not real" or "That's not the pattern I'm seeing."

Even knowing the reflection isn't a mirrored properly, even knowing this isn't a photo but something you created, my brain is *still* trying to tell me, that I'm probably seeing a stormy sky over a calm sea!
