Description Another dog. This one came out almost as an accident while I was working on some animation tests. I love when it happens like this, it makes for very orgranic workflow (which is not something typical for 3d).

Brooding! I love the 'steam' (that's my interpretation) off the beast's back: just glad I'm not there for fodder!

I remember reading your process on one of the other dog pics, on cg society or something, and it was frankly bewildering. But that just adds to the magic of these zone characters of yours. Perfect pose and silhouette and immensely engaging textures. Kudos mate.

Am I to assume you're going to animate one of these?? even a simple walk/run cycle would be great to see.

hey, thanks for comment! I actually thought the process for creating my dogs was quite simple technically, I would think realistic works have more complicated workflow
Yeah, I'm working animating these dogs but not for a movie but rather interactive installation. I've done some tests but it's not there yet. It's tricky because some of the techniques do not translate from still to animation too well so it'll probably end up looking somewhat different then still images. I don't know how much different but in animation the motion comes to the front and I want it to be quite violent so we'll see... thanks for interest!

Ah if I recall there was some tricky looking modeling and UV mapping etc?. I'm fairly comfortable with 3ds max but I always find mapping and more complex modeling a chore. I also use 3d almost exclusively for work, which is always for clean smooth renders, using it to create abstraction patterns seems a foreign concept to me. But I suppose 3d isn't going away, I should probably get back to learning and experimenting again..

Anyway will keep an eye on your blog and here for someone interacting with your dogs, sounds exciting!. Hope it all goes well for you mate.

Yeah, the animation problems are about mapping because still images are done to the camera, so they look nice from one choosen angle. In animation it needs to deform nicely and you also see a character from more angles and it needs to look good. Thanks a lot for interest and You're very welcome to keep an eye on my progress

I like this! Looks to me like it's a literal "Junkyard Dog". Nothing much else to say, except that this is gonna be a favorite of mine. XD
