Description Dancing in the Night...on the dancefloor....excuse me for eliminating the men without rhythm!! Youtube:[link]

Lineart:[link]
Gakupo(c) Miura Kentarou
Outfit (c) Pan Thigh [link]

In some ways I like his WIP version better: [link]
I feel this final version is a bit too...overpowering... even scary... Or maybe primary colors just look odd on Gakupo!

I didn't know that Gakupo was created by the author of Berserk... Really curious!

Even if I haven't tried Vocaloid I adore the character! And you did this pic marvelously 8D
Personally, I don't see this finished illustration as "scary". The blue colours remember me a lot of some cool nocturnal scenes from anime from the eighties...
Now I have more reasons to love this Gackupo!

Congrats! (ΒΊ V ΒΊ)

Oh hey, thanks for the long review! I appreciate it! 8D

So you know Berserk as well? I have only listened to its OST but not watched/read it. XD Yep, Miura Kentarou was approached by Yamaha to create a Vocaloid modelled after Gackt, the j-pop singer. I think the producers liked his aggressive yet very fun and cute artwork. Gackt was ecstatic because he was also a Berserk fan

Thanks. I guess I wasn't used to drawing bishonen, so I felt disgusted at myself! lol

Hahaha...it does, doesn't it. It looks like colors from the 80s! Even the clothes, the hair...

Oh, if you're curious about the Vocaloids, let me recommend this very cute song by the two of them. Kagamine Len & Kagamine Rin. [link] Their "anime" voices might sound a bit robotic at first, but I found it very addictive in the end. XD

You're very welcome, and sorry if I am too late xD
About Berserk, I have only seen a few drawings from Miura and loved Susumu Hirasawa's OST track "Forces" And it's interesting to know the reactions of one of the parts of Gackpoid character (Miura/Gackt is an interesting duo).
And thanks for the link, as well

Keep up the great art <3

Lumi-Yugen In reply to BIGSEED [2010-06-04 23:54:02 +0000 UTC]

Haha, no reason, just mentioned Miyavi cuz I've never known of him until recently and I'm really surprised at how beautiful he is. And moreover he seems 100 percent authentic, like that's the REAL him, not just him dressing up in a costume just to get attention. XD

Lol...thanks. I've been asking everyone whether they like this picture and everybody seems to wonder why I'm asking it. xD That's because I've known many close-minded people/ homophobes etc who'd bash such a picture on reflex. ( lol, hell, probably the same type who'd just bash Gackt on reflex )So I'm happy. ^^

"Wish i can make art like this "
8D Are you serious? Cuz I have no doubt you could paint something like this with practice. You just have to know the steps.
[link]
[link]
<.< See, it's straightforward if you go from step to step.
The trouble with most people is that they stop at step 2 of the coloring process ( adding the flat colors and some shadows ) Whereas, there are actually another 2x or 3x more steps to go, but they give up already. xD I admit I always feel like giving up at "stage 2" because I get confused. But I just switch my mindset to "gradients" and it becomes easy. You'd see.

But one problem with digital painting -- you need a Wacom tablet. That's the pressure-sensitive board that you draw on using a pen. But in your case, I'd recommend that you practice drawing with a pen and paper first. Because you need to know how to draw before you can color properly. Because coloring is just another form of drawing.

LOL lucid dreaming?!
Are you really trying out those techniques mentioned on that website?! 8D Tell me if you get a breakthrough ....ironically enough, drawing will help you dream more visually.... It's true! A friend once asked me if I ever dreamt of my characters in my fanfics and I said never. Then she told me she often saw her charas in her dream. Another artist said the same thing. xP I also find this to be true. xP

Thumbs up , was waiting for the final result before leaving a comment. Very smooth colouring, contrast place in excellent lighting. Very well done, you should give yourself a pat on the back for this.

Lumi-Yugen In reply to C-Megalodon [2010-06-01 22:01:19 +0000 UTC]

Aww, cool. Thanks so much!
Although I have to admit the lighting came about by accident, after I messed about with gradients. The smoothness is also thanks to those lighting/background layers which I put on top.

I guess I feel proud of the colouring but also feel wierd about his design. Like, do you feel his costume is a bit disturbing or do you find it entertaining?

Em...Both? XD

Like the overall feeling. I don't know. Do you like J-pop? Because when I first saw J-rock performers I thought they were disturbing, not cool, although later I started to get it. I think maybe I feel ambigous about this piece for this reason. xD Lol, anyway it's no big deal. It probably just means that I have to develop my male's fashion sense a lot more.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

C-Megalodon In reply to Lumi-Yugen [2010-06-03 11:32:13 +0000 UTC]

Wait...this guy is based off a real J-Pop artist? Well, then I can't judge based on design for I'm guy with no fashion sense. At all. I'm not really into music that much -let alone music videos- but I do listen to Japanese music from time to time. Still, I am basing my judgement on concept, how clean the art is, lighting, colouring choice and how well designed the concept is rather than the concept, fashion sense of the drawn figure. Based on the criteria I mentioned, this is a reall good piece of work. But if you're asking about the colouring of his clothes, his choice of clothes and the like then...well, I have no clue . Sorry. What I do know is that I will never wear anything like that. Ever .

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lumi-Yugen In reply to C-Megalodon [2010-06-03 23:24:36 +0000 UTC]

Yes, he is supposed to look like Gackt, who provided the voice for his character. But I don't know what Gackt wears on stage In daily life he dresses plainly but always has some nice necklaces/bracelets/sunglasses ( He claims to be a vampire. ) As for the clothes he wears in this piece, well, they were designed by another Gackpoid fan but I didn't know that. I drew it thinking it was official

Thanks for giving me the feedback on this guy. I think you're rather objective and open-minded when judging a piece of art!Which is cool!

"What I do know is that I will never wear anything like that. Ever."
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!
I think 100 percent of males would never wear anything like that or they might get arrested for being too Bishie. XD Or at most they'll wear something like this: lol, just joking

...I got to look up this Gackt, because I have no idea who you're talking about .

Well...thanks I guess? I guess judging art is basically based on having a open mind and looking at every detail though, so I go through with it.

No, I don't want to look like Takasugi...Heck, even Hijikata is better .

Lumi-Yugen In reply to C-Megalodon [2010-06-07 16:34:43 +0000 UTC]

No...xD In fact I haven't watched it in two years. But I still continue to make fanart/fanfiction for it which is weird. But I happen to love that time in history that Gintama is set. The Meiji Revolution, in which Japan tried to transform itself overnight from a traditional samurai world into Western society. Well, you know, it's that time period featured in "The Last Samurai"

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

C-Megalodon In reply to Lumi-Yugen [2010-06-07 16:51:18 +0000 UTC]

Ah yes, an interesting period. The show was rather good too despite the actual Last Samurai not being an American.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lumi-Yugen In reply to C-Megalodon [2010-06-08 14:27:41 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I loved it a lot, even though it wasn't historically accurate. But I heard that Tom Cruise was based on an actual person although from a slightly earlier time period. When the Shinsengumi was making their last stand against the reformists, there was a French officer who decided to join them and fight a losing battle with them, even though his commander ordered him to leave. And he didn't die either, though the majority of the Shinsengumi perished. So there really was a "white samurai" like that.

Alright Ill be glad to...
In the normal view the legs look little bit small compared to the body , but I find the hair, face and abs PERFECT!
I liked the colouring in the pants but not the jacket but i cant seem to know why, maybe coz of the sketch lines/shading!

And the thumb in the right hand looks odd! Im sorry to have said such mean things X< but these are minor mistakes and overall its a great painting.

Ohh thats just mean (and very hot *nods*), omg thats so hot [link] lol

Oh yes yes yes omg alright i just wanted to tell u something ever since last night I finally, after alot of struggling and trying I manged to draw u something but its a SECRET i wont tell u what it is XP, for me this is the first time to draw more than 2 sketches for a drawing, but (I dont know why i guess bad luck struck me) Photoshop is not working on the laptop i tried it yesterday and it says i have to re-install photoshop, i told my friend (who installed it to me) what happened and told me shell re-install it for me... and >.< i hope u like it (im saying this too early) But I do have the program paint tool sai but its very complicated i cant seem to save my work as sai so what happens is it gets merged on its own and saves as an jpg image wth! lol Im sorry its taking too long plz forgive me. Ur the priority so as soon as i fix everything ur drawing and the collab will be the first things ill work on...

Oh no, that's not mean, I get your points Thanks for taking the time to analyze my work for me! It really helps. You're right, the anatomy is awkward. And hands...I have so much problem with hands. XD I think I will continue to make lots of anatomy mistakes for now and in the future. xD But hopefully I can drum it into my mind eventually...xPP

You have good eyes for the shading, because I did run into trouble with the jacket shading ( and also the hair shading ) At that point, PS wouldn't let me shade anymore because I put too many wierd lighting filters on top. The dark colors just wouldn't show up. Ofc I could fix it but I was too lazy and wanted to end my session already So that's why.....

Kukuku
By the way, do you notice something odd about Sei-ten's painting style? I keep thinking he didn't paint the whole thing but actually painted on top of a photograph? Do you also get this feeling?

Oh wow...so you had to redraw it twice already? I feel bad for making you go through the trouble :S Plus I haven't finished drawing Lamey either. but I'll do it very soon. And I can't wait to see WHAT you've drawn for our AT. >///<

Im at ur service XD
But the hands look good almost professionally done, i was actually surprised when i saw how good they were done lol. And if u drew alot of different poses ull get better in the anatomy, my friend told me that even if u had to draw the same drawing u used as refference, that way ull get better b4 u know it... its just like what happened to me XD.

Oh yes i just noticed the shading in the hair, but i think i didnt notice it coz i just loved how lovely the hair is drawn i fail in drawing long hair lol. Aha but that dosent matter as long as u know ur mistakes/weak spots, even though u cant fix them, noticing them will be enough that means ur getting better (well my friend taught me that).

Omg yes i thought something was wrong with her/his paintings!

Lol yes XP but thats alright lol, dont feel bad im just glad i could do u something XP

Take ur time in ur part im not in a hurry, oh and about the collab i couldnt think of a tattoo so im thinking he could have hickeys all over his body this means he is loved, wellllllll thats if its okay with u

Lumi-Yugen In reply to Rinko-chuu [2010-06-03 21:22:07 +0000 UTC]

Oh wow, thanks for all the advice! It makes good sense that if I draw a lot of different poses, I can improve! Why didn't I think of that before? Great tip ^^

Noticing your mistakes means you're getting better? Okaii...that makes me feel better then.

Aww...you're having trouble drawing long hair? I can give you a tip! 8D There's this little rule of thumb called "the rule of three". That means if you group things in 3, they will automatically form a fun, pleasant arrangement. I realized that mangakas use this rule to draw hair. For example, they will divide a section of the head into 3. Each section of hair then is split into 3 bangs. The bangs themselves also start to get split into 3. In long hair, every time you draw a thick "rope", you draw some thin strands alongside. If you want to make the hair "wavy", you paint a couple of dark bands and put the highlights right on top of it. ^^

Hey maybe you might find these images useful. These are the images that taught me how to draw hair! If you study it for a while, you'll see the "rule of three" at work.
[link]

[link]

Yeah, about Sei-ten's paintings. I have the strong suspicion he drew on top of a photo. ( Not that there's anything wrong with that! His work is very unique and stunning! ) Because I never see this anyone paint like this in the anime fandom. xD

Okay!! I can't wait to see it.
I like the idea of the Hickies! *w* But you have to chose their spots for me. I'm not sure how to paint them artistically. XD

Yes trust me it might sound stupid but it will make u watch out of these areas when u draw again.

Ohh hey, thanks thats very useful ill try to apply it, thanks for the help XP, and those drawings are very useful, thanks again.

I've never seen anything like that b4 too, he is quiet unique.

XP
Okay ill make a black spot on his body, and when u come to paint just paint over them and then rub the black spot, to make a hickey the hickey itself need to be a colour close to the skin colour with s slight red added to it, it can be either a hickey of last night or this morning if it was last night's then there are only spots, if it was of this morning there will be teeth marks just like this ~ [link] ~ and it up to u to chose the one convenient to u, and im almost done do i upload it in photobucket and send u the link?

You're welcome! I hope it helps. ^^

Yeah, he is isn't he. Now I even wonder how I stumbled across his gallery since I hardly browse beyond the fanart category. xP I don't even know what's out there...

you finished it?!?! I can't wait to color it. XD I saw that picture of the hickey. LOLOL, so cute. Haha. I'll add those "teeth marks" then. But I don't think they are teeth marks though. hahahaha

Sure, photobucket is fine, so long as you save the lineart at 300dpi. Or you could post it to your gallery and I'll dl it from there. Then when I'm finished coloring, I'll send you a link so you can post it in your gallery too. Since it's a collab, it should be posted at both places.
