so down i fell into the water black
my prison cell, only the moon was shining back!
and i heard a voice coming from
just outside the well, she said,

'you fool, now that you know your end is near,
you always fall for what you desire or what you fear.'

You trail your macabre gown even here, Nyx. I can taste you in the air, your stench as cloying as it was that night – the wind blows it towards me, and I can only grasp at it, try to catch what I cannot see; it has no shadow, has no distinguishing mark, only a whisper and a bellow at times – how to catch the wind? No nets will work, no mason jar left on a counter; no trap, no cage that can contain it. So what will I do? It is as if I hunt an anima, so quickly, so fleetingly and so furiously do you dance, Nyx, dance away from me; on a path to destruction I continue to stumble, chasing after your measured waltz, imprinted in the dirt and the grime. Tell me, Nyx, tell me – would you catch me, if I ran? No? Then wise of you – you of all people should know that someday I would return, just like that wind; someday my bones would call me back to the haunted, puppet cemetery where I left the bones of my brothers and sisters, scarred by the blows of the axe and the knife. Wise of you; you alone should know your soul’s magnetism, like a fierce gale that pushes the stragglers back until again they are pressed up against you, so close they can taste but too far, too weak, and too intimidated, to partake of the feast. I would come, Nyx, only call my name once, and I would come. Dreamer: and I would come, floating across your roomscape; Death: and I would come, to gently pry the blade from your hands, kiss you whilst gutting you. Only call my name – Nyx, remember – if you would only call my name, it would all be over. (we would laugh and make merry and fall away into our separate graves.)
