Dude, you HAVE TO read Fire World. David is a dragon, but your jaw is gonna hit the floor when you find out who he is. It never says the dragon's name, but if you really think about it it makes perfect sense since he always gives David the inspiration to imagineer- bring things into existence through stroywriting.

What's weird about someone turning into a dragon? Sounds perfectly normal

it was the whole killing the main character bring then back to life them making it that so that he was created out of someone's imagination that I thought was weird. I prefered the idea of someone normal discovering a secret world of dragons and magic.

He's not imaginary, he's a Fain. You thought the name 'Rain' was a coincidence? He didn't have any memory of his life before he met the Pennykettles, but he was brought to this plain to stop the Darklings

I only read up to dark fire but as best as I could remember he was brought into existence by a monk writing a story with a dragon claw. That sounds like imagination to me. And it would have still been better if he was ordinary before he met the Pennykettles.

Dude, you NEED TO read Fire World.  I just started reading it and everything is making perfect sense: David isn’t a Fain...He’s a fucking firebird.  Fains can’t shed fire tears, even illuminuses, but he almost did in Darkfire.  In Fire World, he actually sheds it and the firebird that finds it describes it as the flame of a firebird.  It was a really sad scene that would make the most cold-hearted dragon cry: he had just killed (by accident) a beautiful firebird named Runcey.

And that’s within the first 65 pages.

you don't get it, I prefer the idea of him being an ordinary human therefor changing what he is again is not going to appeal to me. However, it is great you enjoy the books so much as they are great books.

Oh. And have you ever wondered why Groyne looks so different from Pennykettle dragons? He doesn't appear in Fire World, but his race is shown and it's implied they're natural-born - and NOT dragons

I didn't know this until about page 260, but Fire World is a prequel to Fire Within - and explains a lot of mysteries surrounding the series, including the significance of the word 'Sometimes,' and what it means. David might not be human, but he grew up a fairly normal life before he met the Pennykettles. I thought David was a firebird when I posted that reply, but as I keep reading it's obvious he's something far more complex.

Oh, and it explains how and why Liz started making dragons. Its known that she used Icefire, but wasn't known why she was inspired to make dragons specifically.

That didn't bring him into existence, that brought him into OUR existence. He existed on a plain far beyond human comprehension, one inhabited by beings called Fains. His exposure to Icefire (namely being stabbed through the heart with it and it entering his bloodstream) awakened what he really is, an I:lluminus. He didn't remember his life before he met the Pennykettles but started to after he 'died.' Much like their evil cousins the Ix, the Fains also have the ability to possess people, but they're symbiotes rather than parasites, commingling for the betterment of themselves AND their host.

Daniel's real name is G'lant, by the way.

Thankyou I was going to have the notepad but it just looked kind of off compositionally. When/if I get around to doing the whole team I'll draw him with it.

You could draw the main ones properly, and the others as simple drawings (like Random Manga).
